WWE’s social media platforms have over one billion followers. Additionally, 10 of the 15 most followed female athletes in the world, on Instagram, are WWE Superstars.
All of this has helped WWE to win the top award in the Global Brand Category of the PRWeek Global Awards 2021, as revealed by WWE’s Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon. The judge of the ceremony stated, “WWE’s ability to transcend borders and reach a huge, diverse fanbase – as well as influencers who are prepared to publicly engage with the brand – is impressive. It’s hard to argue with the passion fans have for WWE and its work.”
The WWE roster is also now beginning to get as diverse as their audiences. Currently the WWE talent represent 30 nationalities, and WWE continues to push this number with their new signees.
Maria Kanellis recently called out Stephanie McMahon
While on one hand, WWE was celebrating the recognition of being the best Global Brand, on the other hand Maria Kanellis was revealing some dark truths about WWE. She called out WWE’s Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon. Kanellis called McMahon’s advocacy for women in wrestling promotional.
Kanellis has always been vocal about the need for betterment of the women’s wrestling division. The current Ring of Honor star feels that McMahon could’ve done a lot for the women’s division. She even gave the example of the All-Women Evolution event in 2018.
“So you have all these pointless pay-per-views, you have the opportunity to do a women’s empowerment pay-per-view and you don’t do it? I don’t get it. I don’t know how Stephanie McMahon deals with that,” Kanellis mentioned. Despite being a successful event, the women empowering pay-per-view event was not renewed.
