Tennis great Martina Navratilova is known to have her take on political or controversial issues. She routinely responds to users on Twitter engaged in discourse and is not afraid of casting her opinions.
In a recent such instance, Navratilova attacked a right wing activist who allegedly made fun of Senate candidate John Fetterman’s struggle after recovery from a stroke.
Pennsylvania State’s Democratic candidate Fetterman had suffered an ischemic stroke stroke in May.
Martina Navratilova urges Ye (Kanye West)’s sponsor Adidas to stop sponsoring him for anti-Semitic comments
Recently, Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) made a series of controversial anti-Semitic remarks after which numerous appeals have been made to big sponsors such as Adidas and others to stop endorsing the rapper. Although Ye said that he did not regret his remarks, he made a partial apology recently by saying, “I’m sorry for the families of the people that had nothing to do with the trauma that I have been through.”
In recent times, many popular brands have announced they would stop sponsoring Ye, including Balenciaga and Gap.
Navratilova furthered the same sentiments by persuading Adidas to also drop Ye, who had recently bragged about how the apparel brand was not punishing him despite him having made anti-Semitic comments.
Recently, Navratilova also spoke against supporters of the former President by bringing into focus a recently leaked news story about his former aide Kevin McCarthy, in which he is allegedly heard trying to prove Trump’s innocence in the January 6 Capitol riot incident.
In other condemnations, Navratilova recently expressed bewilderment from the decision of golfers Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson and Brooke Henderson to participate in the LIV golf league, which is backed by Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia certainly does not have a good track record in terms of human rights issue, particularly when it comes to women. The oil-rich country has often been criticized for their oppressive behavior towards women.
On the tennis circuit, Navratilova was last seen at the US Open. She was involved with the panel and was even present during the trophy presentation ceremony during the final.
