“He got to bring his family members on the plane,” Young LeBron James had more power than Shaquille O’Neal ever had
LeBron James has been 'LeGM' ever since his first stint with the Cavs.
LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal
Shaquille O’Neal, known as “The Diesel,” has had the privilege of playing alongside multiple Hall of Famers throughout his career. From Kobe Bryant to Dwyane Wade to LeBron James, O’Neal has teamed up with some of the NBA’s elite talents.
In his second-to-last season, Shaq joined the Cavs, partnering with LeBron James. Before that, O’Neal had already won four championships and earned three Finals MVP awards.
James emerged as one of the most dominant young players in the league during his time with the Cavaliers. Prior to his arrival, the team hadn’t experienced much success since their run with Craig Ehlo and Larry Nance. James single-handedly led them to their first Finals appearance.
When O’Neal joined the squad a few years later, despite his respect in the league, James remained the focal point and leader of the franchise in Cleveland. This was admitted by O’Neal himself recently.
LeBron was probably the best leader, young leader I've seen. And I was kind of jealous of him because he got to do stuff I could never do. Like, coach would be like 'Hey man, we practicing at 10'. LeBron would be like 'No, we practicing at 12'. 'Alright practice at 12'. And I was like, 'Godamn', like he got to bring his family members on the plane and people on the plane. So I was like, I've been the man for a long time, I never really had this much power.Shaquille O’Neal said via ‘The Big Podcast with Shaq’
LeBron James was one of the most anticipated players to step foot in the NBA hardwood. His first stint with the Cavs showcased James’ talent, and his potential to become the best player in the league. Not only that, but each of Cavs’ Finals appearances included James in the roster.
LeBron James has been the coach and GM of every team he’s played for
Fans have often used the terms “LeGM” or “LeCoach” for James. This comes after his power to make decisions for the team on the court and off the court. One of the best examples of the same is James’ second stint with the Cavs. With Tyronn Lue as the head coach, James made and drew plays during crucial moments in some games.
Not only that but Anthony Davis‘ arrival in LA was backed by James, who had a say in the decision. Having played for more than 20 years in the league, King James knows his way around players who would adjust perfectly in his squad, as well as knowing how to use each of them.
Currently, with his team in a tough spot in the first round against the Denver Nuggets, James has tried his best to get the team on track in the series. It will be interesting to see whether the Lakers can make a deep postseason run this year.
