Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been named in Punjab’s 30-man probables’ list for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The tournament will be held in January and the final squad announcement is expected soon. The 39-year-old had announced his retirement from international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year but on the request of the secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), Puneet Bali, the all-rounder came out of retirement.

Despite being named in the probables, Yuvraj’s participation will hinge on the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) clearance to play the same since he has already taking part in overseas tournaments like the Global T20 Canada and the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament. The reason for the same is that the BCCI gives NOCs for overseas tournaments only if a player is officially retired.

Puneet Bali spoke to ESPNcricinfo about Yuvraj’s availability and said, “No he hasn’t been (named in the squad) because we are just waiting for the nod from the BCCI to come yet. He has been selected in the camp, but it is subject to approval and confirmation from BCCI.”

The squad announcement and final decision on Yuvraj Singh’s availability will taken by December 20 as it is the deadline set by the BCCI for all state associations to finalize transfers, squads and NOCs. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be held from January 10 to January 31. The venues for the same haven’t been announced yet and the announcement is expected soon.
