Zverev won the second round match against Roman Safiullin comfortably in straight sets with the score line of 7-6, 6-3, 7-6 after a shaky start in the first round. Zverev was on a brink of losing but he held his nerve and made a comeback from 2 sets down to clinch the match against Oscar Otte in the first round. The score line of the match was 3-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0. Zverev has been in good form recently as he was the last man standing in the Madrid Open. After winning in Madrid, the world number 6 bowed out in the quarter finals to the eventual champion, Rafael Nadal. Interestingly, the German had won 3 consecutive matches against Nadal before losing to him with the score line of 3-6, 4-6. He would be looking to make a deep run in this year’s Roland Garros as he was only able to make till the round of 16 in the last year’s French Open.

Laslo Đere is coming into the 3rd round after playing a 5 setter in the second round. The Serbian won the second round against world number 48, Miomir Kecmanovic with the score line of 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3. He made a tremendous comeback as he came from 2 sets down to win the match. The world number 55 has been playing ATP tournaments regularly and has not performed up to the mark in the clay season. He was able to reach the quarter finals of the Geneva Open as he lost to 2nd Seed, Denis Shapovalov in straight sets with the score line of 4-6, 4-6. The Serbian would be looking to continue is dream run this year’s French Open as he has not gone past the third round of any grand slam by now.

The duo have met only once in the past. They last played in the Mexican Open this year in which Zverev won with the score line of 6-4, 6-3. The German would be looking to take the lead while Đere would be looking to cover the deficit.
