NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has built up quite a life for himself. Currently, he is worth approximately $500 million and spends on luxury cars and expensive items every now and then. He also makes sure he uses his money to help people in need.

The Big Aristotle has made it a habit to identify people, particularly children in need, and has gone out of his way to provide for them. He also gives his children what they need, even though none of them have been able to follow in his footsteps.

But his children do not stay with him. Most of the time, they are either with their mothers or living their own lives. In addition to that, the 7′ 1″ big man is not in a relationship with anyone and has stopped revealing his true self to women.

Time and again, he has been hurt and has chosen to live the single life. However, the mistakes he made during his marriage to Shaunie Henderson are a reason why he is in this situation. Three years ago, he talked about his mistakes to the cast of The Pivot.

I don’t make excuses. I know I messed up, and when I didn’t have that, …I was lost. A 76,000 square foot house, by yourself, lost, no kids. Go to the gym, nobody playing in the gym. You go to the room, nobody’s there, you start to feel it. And as you’re getting older and you hear, ‘Shaq ain’t Shaq no more.’

He acknowledged that his own mistakes had led to this situation. He has all the luxuries he wanted, but no one is there with him to enjoy them. Shaquille O’Neal accepted that he will continue to live this way as those around him have moved on.

Shaquille O’Neal is now content providing for his family

Shaquille O’Neal shares six children with Shaunie Henderson. All six of them are grown up and living a life of their own. But the four-time champion has not shied away from his duties as a parent. He explained on The Pivot that his focus is on his family, even if he is not married or living with them.

I said to myself, ‘Okay, you are not married, but you have to protect and provide for this family. Get you a** up, man up, let’s go.’

Since retiring, he has been building his business on the side to a point where he has more than what is necessary for a luxurious life. His recent contract extension with TNT is only going to add to his net worth. But he uses that money to keep providing for his family.

Shaunie Henderson is now married to pastor Keion Henderson. But O’Neal believes he still needs to be there for her whenever there is a need. However, all that time he spends with his children is not enough to negate his loneliness.

O’Neal did not understand married life

Shaquille O’Neal has been through two marriages and a few relationships. He has talked in the past about how his mistakes cost him both those marriages and those relationships. But the point that he emphasised on The Pivot was about not understanding what the other side expects in a marriage.

I had a lot going. I was arrogant, I was dumb. Sometimes when you do a lot of stuff, you don’t want to work at stuff. Like when I come home, I want to be a certain way. But you are married, it ain’t like that. They have feelings, they have wants too.

Shaquille O’Neal said

By this, he admitted that back then, he did not want to figure out what his marital partners needed from him. Driven by his arrogance as a superstar athlete, he chose to ignore whatever he faced at home, believing he did not need to address it. But now, all of that has placed him in this situation where he is all alone in his 76,000 sq ft mansion.
