Lionel Messi risked a further chill in his relationship with PSG by snubbing their title celebrations for a Coldplay gig in Barcelona. Barca fans chanted for their legend when they spotted him with his wife Antonela Rocuzzo and former teammate Cesc Fabregas at the Brit rockers’ concert. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is exiting the Ligue 1 champions this summer, with a Nou Camp return strongly tipped.

Messi choosing the gig rather than rejoicing with PSG comes as team-mate Neymar also reportedly opted to snub his club’s French bliss. German outlet BILD reported that the injured Brazil icon was seen partying and playing poker at the Red Bull Energy Station in Monaco until late on Saturday night. But it’s Messi’s trip to Barcelona that will spark most speculation.

He was sanctioned by PSG this month after missing training to travel to Saudi Arabia without permission. Messi was pictured at the concert joking with ex-Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Fabregas, who he played with at Barca for three years. The Argentine scored in their 1-1 draw with Strasbourg last weekend which sealed his side’s league title with one game left in the season.

Coldplay was the first group to sell out the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys venue in Barcelona over four nights and should Messi secure a romantic move back to the La Liga winners, it is that venue where he will be playing his football next season. Barca have rented out the Olympic Stadium while the Nou Camp is being renovated. PSG faces Clermont Foot on Saturday.

Lionel Messi has been spotted back in Barcelona this week, at Montjuic no less to see Coldplay in concert. Barcelona supporters also spotted their star man and quickly chanted his name, as shown below by the one and only Fabrizio Romano. Messi’s appearance comes as speculation over his future continues. He won the Ligue 1 title with PSG at the weekend but is about to leave when his contract expires.

Barcelona continue to be linked with a move for Messi, and Xavi addressed the speculation again after seeing his team beat Real Mallorca 3-0 at Camp Nou on Sunday. “All Catalans love Messi, he is the best footballer in history, the scenario is that it depends a lot on what he wants to do, from there we will decide,” he said.

With the end of the season in sight, Barcelona’s transfer plans may soon start becoming clearer. It seems obvious the club want Messi back, but they still don’t know if they will be able to convince La Liga it’s possible. FC Barcelona will receive a much-needed €200 million from La Liga after winning the Spanish top-flight title but may still not be enough to solve their financial crisis.
