The Aston Martin F1 team exceeded expectations at the start of the 2023 F1 season. The Silverstone-based team turned out to be the best of the rest behind Red Bull. Fernando Alonso bagged multiple podium finishes in the first few rounds this year. However, the British team has failed to keep up its performances and lost out to groups such as Mercedes and even McLaren. Team Principal Mike Krack has mentioned that the team wants to reclaim its position in the standings.
When Krack was asked if Aston Martin wanted to have the second fastest car on track, the 51-year-old said, as reported by Soymotor, “Yes.” Although, the former BMW F1 engineer admitted that it is a massive task for the team to defeat multiple units in the development race in the second half of the season. He said, “But I mean, under normal circumstances, I’d say winning three positions on a grid like that and in the short period of eleven Grand Prix, it is very difficult and very ambitious.”
However, the Aston Martin team boss was optimistic that this could be achieved. The 2023 F1 grid has seen stiff competition between rivals for the best-of-the-rest spot after Red Bull, with Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren in the mix. As such, the Silverstone-based team can achieve its target if it manages to extract pace out of the car. Mike Krack explained, “The differences are very small. We have seen how much we have lost and I think the most important thing now is to recover that.”

Aston Martin’s last F1 podium was two months ago

Fernando Alonso secured six stages this year with his new team. The latest one came at the Canadian GP held in June earlier this year. Since then, Aston Martin has struggled to match its rivals, who have vastly improved in recent rounds. Although, the Silverstone-based team did bring a small upgrade to Spa-Francorchamps at the end of the summer break.
Krack further mentioned that a major update package would be coming for the Dutch GP, with Aston Martin hopeful of making significant gains. Recently, Lance Stroll stated that only a big step up in performance could bring the Silverstone-based team back to second place in the championship standings after the fall in performance.
Thus, Mike Krack has outlined Aston Martin’s goal for the remainder of the 2023 season. The Silverstone-based team is keen on taking back second place in the championship standings after failing to stay close to rivals. The British team will be introducing new upgrades at the upcoming Dutch GP. Although, it remains to be seen if things can turn around for Krack’s team.
