Fernando Alonso suffered a major performance setback at the Singapore Grand Prix, ending up in 15th place without earning any points. It was the first-ever non-point finish of the two-time world champion in 2023. Alonso was disappointed and criticized the AMR23 for the poor result by branding it undrivable. Now, Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack responded to the claim. The team has openly accepted Alonso’s criticism of the car’s capabilities during the Singapore Grand Prix.

At the Singapore GP, Aston Martin encountered a tough weekend, failing to secure any points for the first time in the season. Lance Stroll’s qualifying crash prevented him from participating in the main race. Alonso, who encountered numerous challenges during the race, vented at the team over frustration, describing the car as “undrivable.” Alonso also received a five-second penalty for an error involving crossing the pit entry.

Mike Krack acknowledged Fernando Alonso’s frustration with the AMR24 and stated that the performance was not up to the standards that Alonso is accustomed to. “As a team, we need to acknowledge if a driver is critical. Obviously there is not the performance that he’s expecting, and that he’s used to, and then I think it’s okay…So it’s not a problem,” said Mike Krack, as reported by Autosports.com

Following a disappointing weekend, Mike Krack recognized the necessity of a performance review to pinpoint what went wrong during the race. Despite Fernando Alonso showing a promising race pace during Friday’s practice sessions, the team’s expectations fell short during the race.

“We need to really understand what happened,….We had an issue on one of the suspension fairings, an aero part. We saw it on the pitstop, and we saw it in the pictures,” said Mike Krack.

Mike Krack also acknowledged the penalty given to Fernando Alonso by the FIA for crossing the pit stop entry, which ultimately prevented Alonso from scoring any points over the weekend.

“We need to review that,….Because there are some settings to be made, if they were made, and if he was also reminded to do them. So I will be careful about [calling it a] mistake until we have analysed that,” concluded Mike Krack.
