The New York Giants‘ 2023 campaign came to an unexpected early end since they failed to reach the postseason. Brian Daboll, who won the Coach of the Year award last season, had an ugly campaign with the Giants, which has now gotten uglier following an incident with New York’s defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.
According to multiple reports, the Giants’ defensive coordinator Wink Martindale cussed out head coach Brian Daboll and stormed out of the building on Monday. Furthermore, he left New York on Tuesday and was headed to Florida following the incident with Daboll.
The NY Post reported Martindale took issues with Daboll’s plans to fire outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins, along with his younger brother Kevin, a defensive assistant. Wilkins is one of Martindale’s most loyal confidants and the defensive coordinator didn’t like Daboll’s plans to part ways with him.
Martindale reportedly hurled a few curse words at Daboll and insinuated that he was going to resign before storming out of the building. However, he has yet to inform the Giants front office about his resignation since it is more complicated. He has one year left in his contract and a resignation would mean he would forfeit the $3 million he is owed for the 2024 season.
Besides, the Giants could also prevent Martindale from getting employed with another team. So, he has a lot to figure out in his contract before he can resign from his position. As of now, the Giants haven’t been able to reach the veteran coach ever since he left the facility on Monday.
The messy situation comes just a few after NFL insider Jay Glazer revealed the growing friction between Daboll and Martindale during an episode of Fox Pregame show.
Both Daboll and Martindale tried to best to prove that report wrong and the Giants head coach even offered his defensive coordinator the game ball after defeating the New England Patriots. But now, their friction has seemingly reached its boiling point.

NFL fans on social media, especially the New York Giants fans were bamboozled by the beef between their head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.

Martindale also had similar issues with John Harbaugh before he left the Baltimore Ravens. And now, he finds himself in a similar situation. The Giants are yet to officially address the situation and as of now, Martindale hasn’t been fired by them yet.
