Heading into this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys needed to fix a lot of the wrongs of this past season. To do that, Jerry Jones worked with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to create a lot of cap space. Now, armed with that money, the team can go out and build a squad capable of winning the Super Bowl.

They have needs across all three facets of the game. But primarily, it was the run game, lack of an additional receiver and a struggling offensive line that warranted some attention. The line is young, but Jones needs to bring in a replacement for Zack Martin.

Otherwise, his primary focus should be on bringing in a stud running back and a wide receiver to pair opposite Lamb. They did trade for Jonathan Mingo, but he is a long-term solution. To be competitive next season, they need someone who can impact the team now.

If they dip into the draft to solve their need at running back, that will leave the Dallas Cowboys with a significant war chest to look for free agent wide receivers. The most tantalizing target could have been DK Metcalf. But he will command a salary that will force Jerry Jones to turn around. Instead, here are 3 options they can go with.

Chris Godwin and CeeDee Lamb will be explosive

Jonathan Mingo is young and will need some time to develop into the standout receiver Jones hopes he will be. But since they need someone to impact the team right away, the best option out there is Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Chris Godwin.

He will not be cheap and could command more than $20 million. However, that amount can be worthwhile if he continues his usual 1000-yard run. The Cowboys can eke out two good years from him until Mingo develops. His ability to stretch the field will reduce double coverage on CeeDee Lamb.

That alone should be a good enough reason for Jerry Jones to work out a deal for him. Dak Prescott will have two solid downfield and red zone targets in Lamb and Godwin. Coupled with the latter’s ability to make an impact in the middle of the field, makes him a solid yet expensive option.

Jerry Jones could get another veteran option for Dak Prescott

If Chris Godwin is too expensive for Jerry Jones, he could dip into the veteran market. There are a few notable receivers out there, but none come with the experience, drive, and ability to stay healthy as DeAndre Hopkins.

He knows he has lost a step and may not be the all-conquering wideout he once was. Instead, what should interest Jones is his catching radius. His glue-like hands are known to make a QB’s life easier. Under pressure, quarterback’s throws can be slightly off target. That is where Hopkins excels.

He can be a major safety blanket for Prescott in the face of pressure. Along with that, he is still one of the best red zone receivers in the league. The Dallas Cowboys need to score touchdowns, and Hopkins can help them in that department.

Along with that, the most important attribute that should interest Jones is the wideout’s professionalism. With a team that has been criticized for being more about the show and less about the game, Hopkins could be that locker room leader who drives the team forward.

Marquise Brown and other veteran options

If the 32-year-old does not interest Jerry Jones, he can look at his younger teammate. Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown is a younger inexpensive option. On top of that, he uses his slight frame to be useful both in the intermediaries as well as a deep threat.

However, he is now a journeyman option, playing on three different teams in six seasons. If he was that good, the Baltimore Ravens would have held on to him. Despite that, the Dallas Cowboys can nab him for chump change if the Chiefs do not retain him.

Other than these three options, the Cowboys could look at the other wide receivers on the market. Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper can be left out of the conversation for obvious reasons. That leaves Cooper Kupp, Davante Adams and Tyler Lockett as other veterans Jones can target.

Or he could go for some less splashy names in Christian Kirk or Darius Slayton. The owner has this many options to choose from. That means, he can decide on them based on the team’s needs and how much he is willing to pay. Whoever he brings in can help Dak Prescott and this offense take another step.
