White collar pugilist turned pro-boxer Jake Paul has made a career out of doing stuff people tell him he can’t or shouldn’t. I.E., battle it out with impossible names. ‘El Gallo’ will plan to take Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to the gallows in the summer. But what comes after for boxing’s Problem Child is less straightforward and acceptable. Seemingly, Paul is in line to face Gervonta Davis next!

Jake Paul confirmed a while back that him and Gervonta Davis were scheduled to fight next, until Lamont Roach came in. The WBA lightweight champion incurred a controversial majority draw for it. Now, ‘Tank’ Davis is seemingly settled on his next name. During the final leg of yesterday’s Eubank-Benn media presser, here is what Eddie Hearn had to say:

Paul versus Chavez Jr. is not a terrible fight, …We know that Gervonta is going to fight Paul in November. Then we’ll see what happens. It’ll be interesting to go from Gervonta Davis to Anthony Joshua…I don’t think the Chavez fight is terrible.

Eddie Hearn said in a media meet ahead of Eubank Jr. vs Benn

Paul vs. Mike Tyson headlined MVP’s Netflix-theme fight and set off one too many alarms recently for the boxing purists. But as is the norm, Jake Paul did not stop just there. He was working the cog for a fight against Canelo Alvarez, who is now on a Saudi GEA four-deal fight for the extended Riyadh Season. So, that was a done deal that soured out fast.

The Ohio man recently also called out two-time former unified heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua. But will he really face Gervonta Davis, a big pound-for-pound name? Fight fans have poured in all kinds of reactions on the matter.

If Paul can set up a showdown with Gervonta Davis, it would be a huge pro-boxing commercial coup. Tank, an original pupil of 50-0 icon Floyd Mayweather, is one of the biggest names in the sport and quite the longstay. While he has had troubles and caught flak for dodging out 135 lbs competition, he remains a boxing supremo by all means.

Davis must first defeat Roach in a rematch booking, who held him to a disputed draw in March. Their fight is set to be postponed until July or August, which could further prevent Davis from facing Jake Paul. The ‘Problem Child’ himself will have the Chavez Jr. challenge. It is quite the stiff test and a room different than his journeymen or older MMA crops. However, here is what fans think of a Davis-Paul fight, if true:

A handful of fans have said that Tank is a note of his prime self. There is also the ethical matchmaking matter. Jake Paul has always hydrated as a lifelong cruiserweight. He got up to heavyweight limits to face Tyson. So there are no clear tidbits on what weight such a fight would even be contracted at.

Davis, on the shorter side of things, also has a reach disadvantage here. Tank also has a pool of names waiting for a match to be made, instead of a former influencer-boxer. All in all, it does not bode well for the state of mainstream boxing.
