One of the more unexpected sights in the 2025 NFL Draft was Colorado’s star quarterback Shedeur Sanders slipping to the fifth round. Deemed a guaranteed first-round pick by analysts in the run-up to the draft, Shedeur slipping out of the top 10 picks was itself a low-probability event. However, fate had other plans for him, and it was not until the third day of the draft that Shedeur Sanders received the call from an NFL General Manager.
While his fall in the draft was unexpected to the entire world, there was a warning that Shedeur Sanders received. The quarterback is a devout Christian and strongly believes that God is with him. However, two days before the Pro Day, Shedeur had a premonition of things to come, in the form of a dream.
Call it a mere coincidence or superstition, but the dream that Shedeur Sanders had was bad. He does not delve into the exact details of what the dreams contained, but Shedeur is confident that they were sent to him by a negative force, the devil himself.
It is easy to dismiss his claims as being superstitious, but if any athlete has a bad dream close to competition day or any other big day, it is natural for them to get cautious and concerned. Such a sign is hard to ignore, and the same happened with Shedeur. The quarterback was baffled at the timing of the dream.
Two nights before Pro Day, I get bad dreams. So that’s how I know the devil was trying to work on me. The first night, I have horrible dreams, bad dreams. I wake up for me to go back to sleep and I’m like, ‘Why all of a sudden, I’m having bad dreams two days before Pro Day?…I mean, why now?‘
Shedeur Sanders said
Sanders questioned himself. However, he remembered the values taught to him by Deion Sanders and then reassured himself.
Shedeur Sanders believes his bad dreams were an attempt by the devil to distract him
The quarterback is chasing greatness, and the ones who walk on this path face the most setbacks. Sanders called these setbacks a manifestation of the devil.
I understand that even with dad…anytime that greatness is about to happen and all that stuff, you see the devil try to play games, and try to distract you, distract your mind, throw you off, throw you different curveballs in life and all this different type of stuff.
Shedeur Sanders added
The devil tests an individual’s resolve the most when they are closest to achieving their dreams. Shedeur Sanders is certain that was the case with him.

He did not get bad dreams for just one night, but the event wound up repeating itself the next day. Seldom does this happen to him, and the time that it did was days before the most crucial workout of his football career. Irrespective of the dream, what matters is that he got drafted; better late than never. Shedeur Sanders is the latest member of the Cleveland Browns.

It doesn’t matter at what number a player gets drafted, and if there is one thing that the snub has done for Shedeur is that it has caused the fire within him to prove the critics wrong, burn brighter. He will now compete with Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett for the QB1 role in Cleveland.
For the Sanders family, Day 3 of the Draft was nothing less than a charm. Apart from Shedeur, his brother Shilo Sanders was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
