Jake Paul doesn’t shy away from calling big names from the boxing world but not necessarily gets the anticipated response. Despite accumulating wins and gaining popularity, many traditional boxing purists still dismiss him as a gimmick lacking legitimate fighting credentials. That’s what the light heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Artur Beterbiev, thinks and he recently made his opinions clear.

Paul has made a career of beating former UFC champions such as Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva way beyond their prime years. His latest fight was against the legendary Mike Tyson, where he beat the 58 year old via unanimous decision. In a recent interview, Beterbiev was asked about potentially fighting Paul and the Russian gave a befitting reply.

I’m too young to fight Jake Paul because I’m only 40 I need to be like 65 or something like that.

After defeating Tyson, Paul called out Artur Beterbiev to challenge him in defense of the boxing legend’s legacy and honor. The undisputed light-heavyweight champion said Paul’s win over Tyson sparked an emotional motivation to take revenge on Tyson’s behalf. Beterbiev offered Paul a title shot, surprising many, as Paul had only recently transitioned from influencer boxing to professional competition.

Paul often gets mocked for his professional boxing career and many top fighters like Canelo Alvarez have wrote him off. However, this time he responded mockingly, calling it hilarious that a top pound-for-pound boxer was chasing someone with four years’ experience. Beterbiev later admitted he spoke from emotion, reconsidering the callout unless Paul seriously insisted on making the fight happen professionally.

In an interview, he had also mentioned that fighting Paul for a belt doens’t bring honour to his fighting career. However, he will do it if someone offers him a big fight purse, considering it a easy money fight. Regardless, this fight never took place and Paul is now busy with his next challenge.

Jake Paul compares his next fight with UFC

Jake Paul’s next boxing match is scheduled for June 28, 2025, against former WBC champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The bout takes place at Honda Center in Anaheim, California, set for ten rounds in the competitive cruiserweight boxing division. A potential win over Chavez Jr. may earn Paul a world title shot versus WBA and WBO champion Gilberto Ramirez.

British promoter Eddie Hearn has also teased a possible fight between Paul and lightweight star Gervonta Davis if Paul continues winning. However, there have been few critisism towards Paul fighting Chavez Jr who is considered to be way out of his prime. However, in a recent video, the ‘Problem Child’ compared this situation with UFC’s Paddy Pimblett vs. Michael Chandler fight.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a former world champion, a cruiserweight world champion. The same weight as me, the same size as me, and 20 years more pro boxing experience than me…Last week, Paddy Pimblett beat Michael Chandler, and the whole world lost their mind, but not a single person mentioned Michael Chandler’s age. That’s because he’s still within his prime ages, the same age as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. If people didn’t have a problem with Paddy, then why do they have a problem with me?

At UFC 314, Pimblett was the fan favorite, and he proved that by dismantling Chandler and winning via TKO. Despite his confidence, Chandler couldn’t do anything as his speed and durability had reduced with age. As expected, the former Bellator champion had to face an array of questions about his retirement.

Chavez Jr’s last few fights have been against retired fighters such as Anderson Silva and Uriah Hall. Going into the fight, fans are expecting Paul to get a knockout finish, but an upset is possible too. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see how long the YouTuber-turned-boxer stretches his boxing career.
