The Talladega Cup Series race was an event to forget for the reigning champion Joey Logano, who found himself in the middle of a controversy. He went on a profanity laced radio rant on his teammate Austin Cindric, after the No:2 Ford driver cost him the stage-2 win. Majority of the NASCAR community, including some celebrity fans of the sport called Logano out for him comments.

But the one person that matters, Austin Cindric, got his veteran teamakers back as he understands the level of frustration Joey Logano felt.  Ahead of the Texas race this weekend, Cindric discussed the situation, highlighting how such situation does occur when teammates relay each other so much and also admitted that their meeting after the race was clearly awkward.

It’s always awkward, right? It’s one of the larger challenges of doing races like that when you expect so much out of each other and rely so much on each other. And I think there are way more times that

Austin Cindric told Bob Pockrass.

Further talking about the point, Cindric highlighted how he has succeeded on the track over the years with the help of his teammates and admitted that they are putting a ton of focus on these dynamic as that helps them be more successful. Unfortunately, the same system also breeds more such situation, if one driver takes the selfish route ignoring the rules.

I’ve had success on tracks like that because I’ve had my teammates around me and vice versa. So, I think that’s really important for us. It’s something we put a ton of focus on, and as a race team, you have to have those conversations.

Austin Cindric added.

Austin Cindric isn’t overly concerned about Joey Logano’s comments

In another interview, Cindric shared his feelings about the veterans’ comments. Being someone with thick skin and enough experience of such situation, the has learned not to get emotionally invested in minor beefs. But they have to work on ways to avoid such controversies in the future.

I’m not overly concerned or have too many emotions at all about what was said. But, yeah, I think for us, sorting out where we both stood on track and what we can do in the future to be better there and capitalize on those opportunities.

Austin Cindric said.

The emotional outbursts on team radio are nothing new at Team Penske Racing, as both Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano often have such moments. Ironically the youngster Cindric is the more composed driver on radio, despite him being the one the get caught in situation the most. Hence it would be interesting to see if the situation evolves into something big in the future.
