The Miami GP was another dominant weekend for McLaren. Championship leader Oscar Piastri came into his own yet again. The Australian driver bounced back to take the win on Sunday after being unlucky in the final stages of the sprint race. After the Grand Prix. Piastri did not hesitate from cleverly hitting out at Max Verstappen.

Verstappen clinched pole position for the Miami GP. The reigning world champion seemed on course to a good result following a dismal P17 in the sprint. However, the Red Bull star seemed to be no match for Oscar Piastri‘s charge for the lead in the McLaren. Once Piastri got the lead, he managed to pull of an impressive gap with second-placed Lando Norris failing to have a real shot at victory.

The Australian driver opened up on the tricky conditions in Miami, claiming that the weekend had been of the toughest that he has faced since joining Formula 1 in 2023. Moreover, Piastri joked that he knew how to manage the start as he started right behind Max Verstappen. This was a dig at the Red Bull driver’s numerous incidents in Formula 1, including the Saudi Arabian GP.

I won the race that I really wanted to – yesterday was tricky, Qualifying was one of my trickiest sessions of the year so to come away with the win is an amazing result. I was aware enough to avoid Max in Turn 1, and from then I knew I had a good pace advantage. The car was incredible today.

Oscar Piastri proud of McLaren’s incredible F1 comeback

McLaren has risen to the top of the field in Formula 1 in the past two years. The Woking-based squad won its first constructors’ title since 1998 last year. However, it was not smooth sailing for the British team, who were in a dismal state as late as the 2023 season.

Oscar Piastri recalled that two years ago in Miami, things looked far different for McLaren. Both Piastri and Norris were two of the slowest cars on track that year, failing to come even close to any points finishing places. Now, the British team were in a league of their own as they bagged another dominant 1-2 finish.

Two years ago here we were the slowest team, I think we got lapped twice. Here, we just won the race by 35 seconds.

Oscar Piastri stated

Certainly, McLaren has improved the most in Formula 1 in recent years. The British team has managed to make gains where no team has so far. This has paid dividends since last season. Now, Oscar Piastri hopes to carry on this momentum and aim for the world title with four wins in the first six races. However, his teammate Lando Norris will not be ready to back down just yet.
