Spencer Webb was more than just a rising football star; he was a young man whose charisma, athleticism, and determination made him a standout both on and off the field. Born in Dixon, California, Webb first made waves as a high school athlete at Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento.
A dynamic tight end, he showcased a rare blend of talent. He was once ranked the best tight end in the state of California, finishing with 61 catches for 1,063 yards and 23 touchdowns. He earned a four-star recruit rating and offers from several top-tier college programs, including UCLA, San Diego State, and Fresno. Ultimately, he chose to play for the Oregon Ducks, where his college career began in 2018.
At Oregon, Webb quickly established himself as a playmaker. His breakout moment came in 2019, when he caught a 20-yard touchdown from Justin Herbert in a nationally televised game against Auburn. His agility and catching ability made him an NFL-suited prospect. Webb played 20 games over three seasons for the Ducks, catching 31 passes for 296 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Mario Cristobal, the Oregon Ducks HC, noted that the loss of Webb to injury hurt the team offensively. Despite battling injuries during his time at Oregon, Webb was poised to take on a larger role in the Ducks’ offense during the 2022 season.
Tragically, that future was cut short on July 13, 2022.
According to official reports from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Webb was climbing a “nearly vertical” cliff at the rock slides area near Triangle Lake, Oregon. Accompanied by his girlfriend, Kelly Kay, and friend Cody Avilla, Webb was reportedly preparing for a cliff jump—a popular, though risky, activity in the region.
After reaching a spot approximately 25 to 30 feet above the water, he attempted to climb higher. Cody, who was leading, recalled hearing Webb miss a grab before seeing him fall.

Kelly Kay remembered Spencer Webb on his birthday with a sentimental post
Although Spencer Webb bid adieu to the world three years ago, he is alive in the memories of the people who loved him.

On April 7, Kelly Kay, whom Spencer Webb dated during the time of his unfortunate accident, shared a post of the tight end with a heartfelt caption. Kelly and Webb share a son, Spider Webb. Kelly received the pregnancy news a week after the accident.
In the post, she wished him a heavenly big guy and noted that he is not there to see his son, and how radiant he is. She also thanked him for looking after them from above.
Happy heavenly birthday big guy 🎈We all love and miss you down here. It’s frustrating I wish you could be here to see how radiant Spi is… but I know you’re looking out for us up above 🙏🏼 Your energy will never be forgotten Spence.
Kelly Kay captioned the post
In 2022, Kelly shared a post when she received the news of being pregnant. She noted that they have created an angel. Kelly further added that while it will be hard for her to raise the child without her beloved, it comforts her to have a part of him. Later, she named him Spider – a tribute to her boyfriend, who was called the same by his teammates on the field.
