Travis Hunter, the former Colorado Buffaloes’ two-way star, became the second overall pick behind Cam Ward in the recent NFL draft. The 2024 Heisman winner was scooped up by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who traded up and swapped positions with the Cleveland Browns.
Over the last few years, Hunter has repeatedly proven that he’s got the on-field covered. His charisma and humble personality have brought his on-field talent to newer heights. In a recent social media post, a woman shared a very cute story about her travel beside the star.
The woman had boarded a United Airlines flight leaving Denver, unaware she was beside an NFL draft pick. She described Hunter as polite and respectful throughout the journey. He had helped with her luggage, offered to adjust her tray, and addressed her with “ma’am” every time. Hunter’s calm and courteous manner left a lasting impression before she even realized who he was.
As the flight continued, other passengers walked by and congratulated Hunter or asked for pictures. Curious, the woman finally asked who he was. She then noticed his Jaguars-branded pants and asked if he was an athlete. “I’m Travis. Yes, I was drafted by the Jags,” he replied.
The lady, named Sandy Hawkins Combs, later shared the story on Facebook. Furthermore, she also noted that she will be watching the player on the screen this season and for longer. The Jags have a lifelong fan secured now.
I already told my sons I want his jersey. He’s so humble and down-to-earth—I would have never guessed he was a professional athlete.

She thanked both United Airlines and the Jaguars for what she described as a wonderful experience. The post quickly gained traction online, with many praising Hunter’s attitude.
Travis Hunter earns praise for grit, focus at Jaguars rookie minicamp
Travis Hunter had arrived in Jacksonville with pressure unmatched by most rookies in recent NFL memory. The Buffs’ wide receiver/cornerback has faced some immediate expectations to meet after several people questioned Hunter’s talent. Although they all, including Travis Kelce, admitted that Travis Hunter has talent, does he have enough to make it in the NFL?

Despite the spotlight, Hunter treated the Jaguars’ rookie minicamp like a job tryout, not a coronation. His attitude left coaches and teammates visibly impressed.
Hunter had not relied on draft status to carry him through the weekend sessions. Instead, he repeated drills until they met his personal standards. He worked with urgency, fixing mistakes instantly rather than waiting for feedback. His approach resembled that of a walk-on, not a first-round pick.
I’m going to do whatever it takes for me to play right away.
Travis Hunter told the media on Saturday
He also acknowledged the team’s high expectations. Hunter noted that the Jags expect him to come and start immediately as they look for a deep playoff run. However, he also added that he’s ready, while taking it day by day.
Hunter’s track record at Colorado backed up his confidence. He had delivered a Heisman-winning campaign while playing both sides of the ball. Still, Jacksonville’s investment in him added another layer of pressure. The Jaguars traded up to secure him, betting on his ability to do what few have attempted in the league.
So far, that bet appears well-placed. Coaches have praised his mental sharpness, effort, and willingness to be coached. His behavior in public settings has also drawn attention, including the aforementioned viral story about his humility. Both on and off the field, Travis Hunter is doing everything right as his NFL journey begins.
