After Drew McIntyre’s Gnarly Bump, Another Former World Champion Possibly Injured at WWE Backlash: Reports
Having left his all in that ring at WWE Backlash, a former World Champion reportedly picked up a dental injury, the extent of which is unknown.

This year’s Backlash PLE opened with a highly entertaining Fatal 4-Way match for the United States Championship. Jacob Fatu ended up retaining his belt after Jeff Cobb shockingly debuted and helped out The Samoan Werewolf at the behest of Solo Sikoa. Apart from that, it was previously reported that Drew McIntyre had a rough landing on the floor during the course of that battle.
While the Scot was said to be fine, one of the other combatants in the match, viz., Damian Priest, doesn’t seem to have escaped the wrath of a dental injury, reported Fightful Select. The former Judgment Day member wasn’t thrilled about it, as one would expect. The extent of the injury remains under wraps. There’s no word on if Priest would need to take some time off.

McIntyre and Priest were involved in some of the most physical bumps at Backlash. In fact, it was The Street King’s South of Heaven chokeslam that inadvertently left The Scottish Warrior rocked, as his head had hit the floor hard. Both men duked it out at WrestleMania 41 in a Sin City Street Fight. The feud was deemed moribund by a section of the fans when they were building towards the payoff.
However, in hindsight, these former world champions put on a classic. Just when it seemed like their beef was over, they segued into the US title program and came out of it pretty banged up. In a fascinating stat, Priest and McIntyre are two of the three WWE Superstars, alongside John Cena, to have wrestled at every premium live event in 2025 to date.
What was the main event of WWE Backlash this year?
Two icons who carried an entire generation of WWE fans met in the main event of Backlash. They’re none other than John Cena and Randy Orton. Billed as their last clash ever, The Cenation Leader successfully retained his Undisputed WWE Championship against The Viper, but it didn’t happen without some shenanigans.

Had R-Truth not come in the way of a vulnerable Cena about to get his head kicked by an irate Orton, the story could’ve been completely different. The Apex Predator delivered an RKO to Cena’s lifelong admirer, but it was all the champ needed. The Peacemaker star then low-blowed the 14-time world champion, decked him with the title belt, and therefore was able to keep Orton’s shoulders to the mat for the referee’s count of three.
Some believed that the ending fell flat to what was a memorable wrestling swansong to the great Orton vs. Cena rivalry. Truth, who famously professes that Cena is his childhood hero, got humbled by the Last Real Champion himself at the post-show press conference for crossing the line. They’re believed to be lined up for a singles match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 24.
Which match stole the night at WWE Backlash?
In the only women’s match on the card, Becky Lynch took on Lyra Valkyria for the women’s Intercontinental Championship. This rivalry came about pretty swiftly. At WrestleMania 41, The Man made her long-awaited WWE return to partner with her Irish compatriot against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.

They fought for the women’s tag team titles, which Lynch and Valkyria eventually won. However, they lost it back to Morgan and Rodriguez on Raw after WrestleMania. Big Time Becks snapped and turned on Valkyria. That kicked off their rivalry, and Lynch would reveal in the following week that she was the one who took Bayley out of the equation.

At Backlash, Lynch gave The Bird Lady a run for her money, and Valkyria didn’t have it easy at all. At one point, Lynch even mocked Valkyria’s fiancé, who was sitting in the front row. The Man got stunned by a roll-up, and she lost. However, she continued pounding down on the 28-year-old like a sore loser.
