It was another heartbreak for Shane Lowry on Sunday. The Irishman suffered a late collapse in the final round and ended up losing the 2025 Truist Championship. Following his loss, he declined to speak to the media and headed straight out of the course.

Earlier this year, Lowry finished as the runner-up in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am against his ‘close friend’ Rory McIlroy. Since then, he has made the cut in every event and finished 7th in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T8 at the Valspar Championship.

This week, he seemed to be in contention once again. With scores of 64, 65, and 67 in the first three rounds. In the final round, he went head-to-head against his Ryder Cup teammate Sepp Straka. After making a birdie on the 15th hole, it seemed he was in full control of the event.

Unfortunately for him, he suffered a late slip-up in the tournament. Lowry first made a bogey on the par-3 16th hole and then made a par on the 17th hole. After starting off strong on the final hole, he ended up making another bogey, which eventually cost him the title.

Following the round, Lowry refused to speak to the media at the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course. During the Masters Tournament in April, he came under the spotlight after expressing that golfers need some time to cool off before talking to the reporters.

This is also not the first time a player has refused to take part in the post-round conference. After suffering a similar defeat at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Collin Morikawa stormed off the course and decided to skip the interviews. While he got severely bashed for this, the golfer did not change his stance later on and defended his actions.

Rory McIlroy claims Shane Lowry’s game has improved following switch to United States

The 2025 Truist Championship from Philadelphia turned out to be a heartbreaking one for Shane Lowry. The 2019 Open Championship winner collapsed in the final three holes and blew away his chances. Despite this loss, his friend Rory McIlroy praised him and claimed that he had improved his switch to the United States.

In the press conference after the round, the 5-time major champion claimed he had seen a big ‘difference‘ in the gameplay of his Zurich Classic of New Orleans partner since he started living in the US full-time.

I just feel like I’ve seen such a big improvement in his consistency week to week because of where he lives, being able to practice in great conditions on great golf courses, get in games with the likes of myself or Rickie (Fowler) or JT (Justin Thomas) or whoever lives down in Jupiter.

Rory McIlroy said as per ASAP Sports

Two weeks ago, McIlroy and Lowry teamed up to defend their Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The All-Irish team finished T12 in that event, while being 22-under par for the tournament.

When was the last time Shane Lowry won a singles competition in the United States?

While Shane Lowry has been a huge name on the PGA Tour, he has not won much. The 38-year-old only has 3 PGA Tour wins to his name with one of them being in a team event alongside Rory McIlroy last year at the Zurich Classic.

Lowry’s last win on US soil was his first PGA Tour win of his career. In 2015, the golfer won the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational by finishing 11-under par for the tournament. He finished 2 shots ahead of runner-up Bubba Watson that day.

His other PGA Tour win came in Northern Ireland in 2019 when he won the Open Championship. In that event, Despite a final round score of 72, Lowry finished 6 shots ahead of Tommy Fleetwood to claim his first major championship. Since then he has not won any singles title.

Lowry will have to pick himself up from this defeat and start preparing for the PGA Championship this week. The second major of the year will be played at the Quail Hollow course in North Carolina.
