Update on Cody Rhodes’ WWE Return After His Prolonged Absence Since WrestleMania 41
It seems like Cody Rhodes isn't far off from making his WWE return. He suffered a gut-wrenching loss against John Cena at WrestleMania 41.

Cody Rhodes has not appeared on WWE television since losing the Undisputed WWE title to John Cena at WrestleMania 41. There were rumblings of his return at last weekend’s Backlash PLE in St. Louis, but it didn’t happen. So when could the fans expect him back? As per WrestleVotes, ‘The American Nightmare’ is expected to be in Los Angeles for Money in the Bank.
The wrestling insider added that Rhodes is scheduled to be a part of the show. While his role that night is unknown, he’ll, at the very least, be in town for that weekend. It’s quite possible that the 39-year-old pops up on WWE programming before the Intuit Dome-hosted PLE, slated for June 7. Last month, days after succumbing to Cena at WrestleMania, Rhodes was spotted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The ex-AEW EVP was there with his family on a well-deserved break from WWE. He couldn’t get past ‘The Cenation Leader’ in Sin City, thanks to Travis Scott screwing it up for Rhodes. On a night when the fans expected The Rock to pull up and make life difficult for ‘The Prodigal Son,’ what they got in turn was Scott in an ending that was heavily censured.
Cody Rhodes is reportedly planned to be at Money in the Bank.

"I do believe he’s [Cody Rhodes] still scheduled to be a part of the Money in the Bank show. Don’t know if he’s wrestling, don’t know if that’s when his return will happen. But as far as I know, he will be in Los… pic.twitter.com/WbMXceMFJR
In a match that could potentially involve Rhodes on the opposite side, WWE has plans for Cena and Scott to team up. A rematch between ‘The Franchise’ and ‘The American Nightmare’ seems inevitable after a controversial finish to their WrestleMania showdown. It remains to be seen when WWE actually pulls the trigger on it.
Randy Orton comments on feuding with Cody Rhodes
Ever since Cody Rhodes’ return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, the fans have been clamoring for his eventual feud with Randy Orton. The latter has been a longtime mentor-cum-friend to Rhodes. In a recent interview Orton did with Billboard, the 45-year-old claimed that whenever they do cross paths, it’d be better than anything he’s done with the likes of Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, or even John Cena.

The Viper said that he and Rhodes are evenly matched in terms of their in-ring capabilities. Orton was quite confident about the storytelling they could do whenever the opportunity presented itself. Over the course of last year, WWE heavily teased that ‘The Apex Predator’ was eyeing the Undisputed WWE title, which, at the time, was resting on Rhodes’ shoulders.
It seemed as if they’d soon find themselves opposing each other in that ring, but it never reached the boiling point. Orton recently lost to Cena at Backlash, which was a setback for ‘The Legend Killer.’ With the latter seemingly out of the world title picture momentarily, he’s expected to assume a different role in the upcoming weeks on SmackDown.
Will Cody Rhodes compete in the Money in the Bank ladder match this year?
As noted earlier, Cody Rhodes is expected at Money in the Bank PLE in some capacity. One of the most possible scenarios could see ‘The American Nightmare’ compete in this year’s MITB ladder match. He hasn’t done it since 2013.

WWE might want its top babyface to risk it all this year in pursuit of regaining the world title that he recently lost. If Rhodes gets automatically inserted into a future storyline with John Cena, there’s a chance the WWE Universe might turn their backs on ‘The Prodigal Son.’
As Cena heads towards the end of his farewell tour, the crowd support is expected to grow for the 48-year-old. Having said that, the company might need to be meticulous while booking the end of Cena’s ongoing title reign, especially if Rhodes will be the one to take it back.
