Aaron Glenn’s New York Jets Receive an Unnecessary Jab from Donald Trump
Jets owner Woody Johnson is a Donald Trump sympathizer, but football and politics are two separate subjects.

Aaron Glenn may be working hard to establish a winning mentality at the New York Jets, but escaping the past woes is difficult, as President of the United States Donald Trump recently recounted. Ironically, the Jets just randomly popped up in the conversation.
Trump hosted the champion Florida Gators team at the White House on Wednesday. Besides congratulating the Gators team for their achievement, Trump spoke highly about one of the school’s greatest ever players, Tim Tebow.
At the turn of the century, Tebow led the Gators to the top of the NCAA. He won multiple college football titles before entering the NFL. The Denver Broncos drafted Tebow in 2010, but he spent one year on the Jets roster.
NFL legend and University of Florida, one of the greatest I’ve ever seen. I’ll tell you what, as a college player, maybe the best ever. And you did damn well in the pros. Despite being on the Jets, you did damn well.
President Donald Trump joked
Despite winning seven games out of eleven in his second year in Denver, the Broncos traded Tebow to the Jets while the AFC West team signed Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. Tebow played 12 games in New York, but most were on special teams and in the wildcat formation.

The Jets fans wanted head coach Rex Ryan to play Tebow instead of regular starter Mark Sanchez. However, Tebow only completed six total passes before the Jets released him in 2013.
Since Tebow’s release, owner Woody Johnson has gone through several quarterbacks, including Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers. However, none of them succeeded in making the starting quarterback job their own.
In early 2025, the Jets appointed Aaron Glenn as their head coach. Glenn was the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, who won the NFC North in back-to-back years.
A new quarterback to take charge at the New York Jets
Glenn wasn’t the only change that Johnson made at Gang Green. He replaced the former general manager with Darren Mougey and signed free agent quarterback Justin Fields.

Fields will attempt to fill the void left by Aaron Rodgers. Fields has looked sharp during the limited time in the training camp. Glenn loves his mechanics, but he admires the 26-year-old’s ability to lead the team.
He has a quiet voice, but that quiet voice doesn’t mean that people don’t hear him. People see the way that he works that speaks more than what you say. I like that about him because he is himself. He is authentic, and he isn’t going to change for nobody.
Aaron Glenn said (H/T: Heavy)
The No. 1 thing #Jets HC Aaron Glenn loves about his QB Justin Fields is his authenticity.

‘He’s not trying to be the celebrity quarterback. He’s just trying to be himself.’ 👀

Fields spent the 2024 season as the backup to Russell Wilson at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fields started six games, primarily serving as a reliever during garbage time. The Steelers reportedly wanted Fields back for another year, but he opted for the Jets because of Glenn.
I think, No. 1, [the reason is] coach [Aaron] Glenn. I’ve played against him early in my career [and] I know how passionate he is about the game, the way he coaches, the way his players play. So, I think that was the biggest thing for me.
Justin Fields said
According to analyst Warren Sharp, the Jets have the 16th-toughest schedule in 2025. They will kick off the campaign against the Steelers in week one.
