Lewis Hamilton’s start at Scuderia Ferrari has remained mediocre as he fails to achieve even a podium finish in his debut. The 40-year-old was expected to fight for the drivers’ title. Alas, Hamilton’s performance has not been up to the mark since the beginning. Now, with the halfway point of the 2025 season coming up, F1 presenter David Croft has shared his candid opinion on the Briton potentially retiring from Maranello earlier than expected.

Lewis Hamilton’s struggles in performance since the beginning of the ground-effect era were supposed to end at Ferrari this year. However, the 2025 season seems to be a repetition of his recent challenging times with Brackley. Now, due to such mediocre results with seemingly no improvement, rumors have started to creep up about the seven-time champion seeking early retirement from the team and potentially the sport.

Amongst the sea of believers that Hamilton is set for an early departure, David Croft remains sure of his claims. The Englishman asserted that the seven-time champion isn’t going to go anywhere and finish his tenure with Ferrari. The option to renew his contract also remains on the table, as he isn’t ready to hang up the racing suit so soon, despite the 40-year-old facing major performance issues.

Croft added that Lewis Hamilton is set to finish the year of new regulations with Ferrari as well. Still, Maranello needs to immediately work on their form and achieve a positive influence on their pace and performance to retain Hamilton’s continued interest in the team. The Briton’s insignificant position in the drivers’ standings of just P6 with 71 points remains a big negative for the 40-year-old in his bid to continue racing with the team.

Very simply, Lewis will be around next year. He’s not going anywhere.

David Croft labels Canadian GP circuit as Lewis Hamilton’s ‘track’

Lewis Hamilton has achieved amazing results in the past at almost every circuit in the current F1 calendar. One such track is the Montreal Circuit of the Canadian GP. The seven-time champion has excelled at this circuit since his debut in the 2007 season and is likely to showcase great results this year as well. However, in the wake of Ferrari’s continued struggle, Hamilton might suffer from disappointing results, which might take a huge hit to his continuation with the Italian team.

With the upcoming race in Canada, Lewis Hamilton is expected to deliver a significant performance improvement. David Croft reckons that this circuit has been dominated by Hamilton for a very long time, which just might be the case this time around as well. However, the F1 presenter accepts that if the 40-year-old fails to emerge victorious at the Canadian GP as well, then there might be some real problems, leading to bigger repercussions than the team ever hoped for.

This is Lewis Hamilton’s track. And if he has another downer day, like he did in Barcelona, then there’s issues.

David Croft noted

Ferrari is ready to acknowledge its shortcomings in performance and incorporate Lewis Hamilton’s input to address them. Still, the team must realize that time is of the essence, especially for a driver like Hamilton. As such, Maranello needs quick improvement in order to retain the Briton’s interest in the team beyond his current contract expiration. As things currently are, the conspiracies might turn true as the 40-year-old hopes for a better outing in the upcoming races ahead of the summer break.
