The premier stock car racing division, NASCAR, is at Mexico City this weekend for the first international race of the Next-Gen era. This iconic American racing series is coming in a time where there is significant political unrest in USA that involves the Latino community owing to ICE raids. 23XI Racing star driver Bubba Wallace was asked about the situation in his media session.

The two times Cup Series winner has often been asked about politics in the past owing to his controversial past. This time tough Bubba Wallace didn’t have an answer for them, as he has been more focused on racing and his family. But he used the opportunity to share his thoughts how NASCAR has been making massive strides in making the sport more inclusive for the marginalized community.

Yeah, so, to be honest with you, I haven’t paid attention to the outside world and the news and stuff like that. I think for us and the image that we have been trying to portray as a sport, at least, for the last five years, when everything was kind of flipped on its head, was making this [sport] inclusive for all. Making it special for everyone to attend our sport and to have fun…

Bubba Wallace said at Mexico City (Frontstretch on YouTube).

The TRD driver them shifted his focus to his friend and rival Daniel Suarez, the home nation hero this weekend. The Trackhouse Racing driver has invested a lot into the race alongside NASCAR to make it successful for everyone involved. Everyone in the racing community seems to understand the role played by the No:99 Chevy driver in the stock racing’s return to Mexico.

And like I mentioned earlier, I couldn’t be prouder and more excited for [Daniel] Suárez and understanding that he’s put in a lot of work with NASCAR to make this all happen and to make it special for all of us.

Bubba Wallace said.

He also highlighted how NASCAR has been able to create a safe environment for everyone involved in the race week and that has helped the drivers to prepare for the event. Wallace believes both Suarez, the former Truck Series champion, and NASCAR deserves equal credit for making that possible.

And to see NASCAR support his decisions and needs and wants to make sure everybody is safe. Not just the drivers, but fans and family and friends, all of this. Everybody is safe, and they feel important just as much as the drivers do. I think a lot of credit goes for Suárez, but a lot of credit goes for NASCAR for supporting those actions.

Bubba Wallace added.

Bubba Wallace has no expectations for the Mexico City race

Despite the buzz around the weekend and how improved he is playing as a road course racer; Wallace doesn’t have any expectations for the weekend. He is also traveling this week without the family as he has more commitments, such as sponsorship events, in the weekend asides from racing.

I think just taking it all in. I have no expectations. It’s just going to be me; the family is not going. I have a couple of appearances there early in the week, so to get down there and see and officially say I’ve been to Mexico. And (eating) good food.

The comment from Wallace shows he, like many of the other drivers, isn’t coming in not hoping for a win, but a solid point paying finish and not wreck. The new track and it being a road course events change the whole dynamic in the garage, and it would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout.
