With the Paul “Triple H” Levesque regime in place, the WWE Superstars are enjoying more leeway in terms of working on projects outside of the squared circle. Cody Rhodes, the company’s poster boy, played a cameo in the upcoming Naked Gun reboot slated to release in the US on August 1. The trailer is out, and Rhodes has been included in it.

One could spot Rhodes at the 1:23 minute mark in the following clip. The movie is a legacy sequel to Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult, which was released in 1994 and is overall the fourth installment in the Naked Gun franchise. The latest iteration of the crime action comedy is led by a star-studded cast featuring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson in lead roles.

Meanwhile, Rhodes, as is evident by the trailer, has a significantly smaller part to play in the Akiva Schaffer-directed film. The American Nightmare might’ve taken up a role in The Naked Gun as a side quest, but he does plan on being the next pro wrestler to make it big in Hollywood. Back in April, he told ‘Pardon My Take’ that he’d love to tell stories that way.

The former AEW EVP brought up how the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Dave Bautista, and John Cena have blazed the trail already. Rhodes believes that he can follow suit as well. With his burgeoning popularity among the entertainment circles around the globe, Rhodes might not find it difficult to land some major roles on the big screen in the not-too-distant future.

What Cody Rhodes did on this week’s SmackDown?

This week’s SmackDown saw Cody Rhodes get involved in multiple segments. He confronted John Cena in the beginning to remind the Peacemaker star that he got pinned by Rhodes at Money in the Bank. Addressing his WrestleMania loss to Cena, Rhodes did admit that he was more concerned about The Rock’s appearance than his world title defense.

It eventually cost him the Undisputed WWE Championship. In a backstage segment, The Prodigal Son ran into CM Punk. Both of them knew that they couldn’t run away from each other forever and would have to cross paths inevitably.

On June 28, The Best in the World will challenge The Cenation Leader for the Undisputed WWE title. If Punk upsets his arch-nemesis in Riyadh, then Rhodes will have no choice but to chase him down.

The American Nightmare has reached the semifinals of the King of the Ring tournament. Should Rhodes become the 2025 King of the Ring at Night of Champions, he’d receive a shot at the Undisputed WWE title at SummerSlam. Even though Punk is expected to push Cena to his limits, The Last Real Champion isn’t expected to drop his championship belt later this month. WWE will likely book Cena vs. Rhodes part II as one of the main events of this year’s two-night SummerSlam PLE.

Randy Orton issued a warning to Cody Rhodes on SmackDown

In the aforementioned Cody Rhodes segment with John Cena, one of the latter’s best friends, Randy Orton, was also in it. The Viper spoke about how R-Truth messed things up for him at Backlash just when he was about to put Cena away for the WWE title belt.

Orton then turned his attention to Rhodes and affirmed that he loved him as his brother. However, the 14-time World Champion made it loud and clear to his former Legacy stablemate that he wouldn’t hesitate in pulling the trigger on Rhodes if they met in the ongoing King of the Ring tournament.

Both Orton and Rhodes are a win away from facing each other in the finals at Night of Champions. It seems like the fans are getting closer to the dream match they’ve been waiting for ever since The American Nightmare’s return to WWE.
