Lando Norris was seen as the favorite for the 2025 world title. After a failed bid against Max Verstappen last year, fans expected to see the British driver claim his maiden championship this time around. Unfortunately, Norris’ run is seemingly turning into a disaster. Now, former F1 champion Nico Rosberg has pointed out the chink in the McLaren star’s armor.
Since the start of the season, Lando Norris has failed to match his teammate Oscar Piastri. The Briton has won only two races compared to seven victories by the 24-year-old. This has only added pressure on Norris’ shoulders, who ended up colliding with Piastri at the Canadian GP.
The 25-year-old is infamous for being open about his mental struggles. While this allows Lando Norris to be transparent with fans, it has been considered a major weakness by critics in the paddock.
Nico Rosberg claimed that Norris had become mentally fragile, stuck in a loop of self doubt. So much so, that the 2016 F1 champion called it the McLaren star’s ‘Achilles heel.’ With the Canadian GP fallout being the perfect example of the Briton collapsing under pressure.
Lando as you mentioned, it’s been his Achilles heel this year hasn’t it, his mental fragility, his doubts, and they came to the fore again now in Montreal. It’s just when the pressure is highest there’s these little mistakes that creep in.
Nico Rosberg told Sky F1
McLaren has continued to allow Norris and Piastri to battle one another this year, despite a high-stakes battle at the front. While the Briton immediately accepted the blame for the crash with Oscar Piastri, the Woking-based team might be forced to reconsider its stance on intra-team battles on-track if something like this happens again.
Lando Norris suffered due to big ‘misjudgement’ in Montreal
During the Canadian GP, Lando Norris was battling Oscar Piastri in the ending stages of the race. The Australian driver seemed to have an edge on his more experienced teammate. However, as the two went on the main straight, Norris made contact and hit the wall, ending his race. While Piastri went on to finish in fourth place.

The DNF will be costly for the 25-year-old, who is struggling to bridge the gap in the standings. Nico Rosberg reckoned that Norris failed at the most critical juncture of the race. The Briton made a glaring misjudgement when he was supposed to overtake his biggest title contender.
In the heat of the moment, in the most critical moment where he was trying to pass his championship rival he did a very strange misjudgment, just driving right into the back of him.
Nico Rosberg added.
Certainly, Lando Norris would be hoping to move on from this incident. The British driver needs to turn things around quickly to have any chances of defeating Oscar Piastri. There are still fourteen races left this year, giving Norris plenty of time. However, the McLaren star is already in a tough position mentally, and more poor results could further weaken his morale.
