Team Penske star Joey Logano won the Cup Series in 2024, his third title in the championship. Following his triumph, US President Donald Trump invited the No. 22 driver and his crew to the White House. However, Logano admitted that the celebration was overshadowed by Trump’s tariff announcements, just a day earlier.
The three-time Cup Series champion is no stranger to the White House. Joey Logano was invited by President Donald Trump after his maiden title in 2018 for a similar celebration. Although, President Joe Biden did not send an invite to bring Team Penske to the Oval Office for Logano’s 2022 title win.
However, Joey Logano’s second trip to the White House was overlooked. He met President Trump on April 9, a day after the US government announced modifications in reciprocal tariffs on Chinese goods, putting it at a staggering 84%. China is one of the largest trading partners of the US, making these tariffs a big debacle. With Wall Street stocks plunging after the announcement. Though, the tariff rates have fluctuated since then.
Joey Logano recalled that during his visit to the White House, the media was more focused on asking Trump questions over the tariffs. This led to the Team Penske crew standing quietly for almost half an hour. Though, Logano applauded Donald Trump for his ability to adapt to the environment. The 47th US President was able to switch from a lighthearted chat with the NASCAR star to answering serious questions to the media in the blink of an eye.
The (stock) market was just going crazy and so the media availability went from talking about race cars and NASCAR and racing to just tariffs; We’re all standing there in the background for like 30 minutes. It was an incredible visual. It was amazing how quickly he turns the switch on and off because he went from a relaxed environment talking to us … about racing and then he flips it on he’s like, ‘Oh it’s business right?’
Joey Logano said on Whiskey Riff podcast.
Despite the rather unique circumstances, Joey Logano was happy to have got the chance to meet the president yet again. He was glad to see the No. 22 car be parked outside the White House.
And he’s talking about what’s going on with the country so it was a neat experience, a really cool picture to have your race car in front of the White House like that’s one of the coolest things that you can see.
Joey Logano added.
Joey Logano calls Donald Trump a ‘funny’ guy
Donald Trump is one of the most polarizing personalities in the world of politics. The American billionaire has always divided opinions. While President Trump is often seen taking a firm stand on important issues, he does take some time to cheer up the American people, notably with his infamous ‘YMCA’ dance.

As it turns out, Donald Trump is not just limited to some interesting dance moves. Rather, the US president is particularly good with humor. Joey Logano recalled that while he was tense before meeting President Trump, he was quite relieved during the visit. He claimed that Trump had tons of jokes, which really brought a smile on the entire Penske crew.
It’s such a surreal experience. You’re sitting there and you’re like, ‘Okay I’m gonna meet the President, I’m walking in the Oval Office, like this is crazy, like this is the place, right?’ Trump was super nice. He talked to us for a long time and had plenty of jokes. The guy’s funny, I’ve got to give it to him. He’s got a lot of jokes.
Joey Logano recalled.
Joey Logano seems to have formed a nice bond with Donald Trump. The Team Penske star has been clever enough to not bring his own political views over his trip to the White House. While Logano seems to enjoy jokes made by Donald Trump, the US president does not have the best of relations with some others in the field, particularly Bubba Wallace. Perhaps, things would be far more awkward if Wallace ever crossed paths with the American billionaire.
