The longest-reigning WWE Champion of the modern era, Roman Reigns, is close to returning after having spent months on the sidelines.

It’s been over two months since Roman Reigns was last seen on WWE television. He got mauled by Bron Breakker at the behest of Seth Rollins on Raw after WrestleMania 41. The fans have been awaiting a befitting response from their Tribal Chief, whose return is all but imminent at this point, as per a new update from WrestleVotes.
The outlet has noted that the preparations for Reigns’ comeback are already underway. Apart from brand-new merchandizing and branding for the Pensacola-born wrestler, the company is also planning to come up with alternative Tribal Chief monikers. The report claimed that there were initial plans for The OTC to work this weekend’s Night of Champions PLE in Saudi Arabia.

"It's that time of year again as the return of Roman Reigns is nearing. According to several within the company, the preparation behind the return of the Tribal Chief has begun, including new merchandising and marketing for… pic.twitter.com/TN75KS5ogu
That might not happen given the card has been finalized without Reigns being factored into the creative plans. However, the former Bloodline supremo is set to be featured in the main event of SummerSlam, which is making its two-night debut this year. One might wonder who he could face at The Biggest Party of the Summer.

Reigns wouldn’t have to look any further than Seth Rollins and his heavy-hitters, viz., Bron Breakker and “Big” Bronson Reed. But that begs the question regarding who’ll even up the odds for an outnumbered Reigns. At one point, it seemed like he’d receive the backing of CM Punk and Sami Zayn.
They took on Breakker and Rollins at Saturday Night’s Main Event but couldn’t get over the line when a returning Reed bulldozed his way into Rollins’ tutelage. Since that point on, both Punk and Zayn have segued into different avenues and may not revert back to Rollins and company. However, Punk and Rollins recently came to blows during the SummerSlam kickoff show.
Roman Reigns officially set for Street Fighter movie role
It was reported last month that Roman Reigns was in talks to star in the live adaptation of the Street Fighter movie. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the former WWE Undisputed Champion’s role as Akuma has finally been confirmed.

Reigns is set to work alongside Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo, 50 Cent, and more. The filming of it is slated to commence in August. Apart from this, the former Shield member will also be seen in Amazon MGM Studios’ action-comedy, The Pickup, which is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 6.
Joe Anoa’i (Roman Reigns) has officially been cast as the villain Akuma in the new live-action Street Fighter movie from Legendary. With Reigns’ growing interest in ventures outside of WWE, it’s evident that he’s already looking forward to shaping his acting career once he’s done with WWE. For the unversed, the 40-year-old’s ongoing WWE deal will expire shortly after next year’s WrestleMania and he might re-sign for another year or two at the most before bidding adieu to the squared circle.
Kevin Owens looks back on his 2021 feud with Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns has had a number of career-defining rivalries with the likes of Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, to name a few. However, the chemistry that he possessed with Kevin Owens is something that the fans still rave about. They haven’t come to blows since wrestling each other in early 2023.

But they were incessantly beefing during the Thunderdome Era of WWE, producing some of the most captivating segments and matches in the meantime. Owens recently revealed that WWE had plans to introduce Damian Priest in his then-ongoing feud with Reigns.
The Prizefighter was baffled by the company’s pitch of making Priest portray his best friend, who would’ve aided Owens in his cause against The Bloodline. The Canuck was not impressed with the idea and rejected going ahead with it. Had he agreed to it, Priest was lined up to replace Owens in his match with Reigns at the Royal Rumble PLE in 2021.
