The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season so far has been tough for Bubba Wallace, as bad luck is following him to every tracks. Despite having good cars either mistakes from him, his crew or his rivals ended up ruining his chances. At Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend, the story played out the same way, though he was able to salvage a P9 finish.

The race defining moment for the veteran happened towards the end of stage one, when Joe Gibbs Racing star driver Christopher Bell spun out before the traffic and collected multiple drivers such as Austin Dillon, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson and AJ Allmendinger alongside Bubba Wallace. The 23XI Racing star driver was furious with his TRD teammate and didn’t hesitate to call him out on team radio.

Christopher Bell is a f*cking dumbass. That’s what he gets.

Bubba Wallace said on team radio.

The incident caused some damages to the No:23 Toyota Camry, forcing him to pit and start the restart at the back of the pack. But it was a blessing in disguise for the veteran, as he was able to avoid getting caught in the 22-car wreck that occurred in the second stage caused by 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin. This helped him to eventually end up in P9 in the race.

The whole drama also helped him to progress in the in-season bracket challenge that will earn the winner $1 million. He was matched up against his close friend Daniel Suarez, and the top 10 finish helped him to move forward. Next week at Chicago, he will face off Alex Bowman and it will be tough battle considering the HMS racer is pretty strong in road courses/street races compared to Wallace.

Denny Hamlin highlights the progress showed by Bubba Wallace in 2025

Talking about his driver Bubba Wallace, coming into the weekend, Denny Hamlin pointed out that despite not winning races, they are solid, and he is happy with the No:23 teams’ performance. But at the end of the day, for the betterment of the team and sponsors, he wants NASCAR’s sole black Cup racer to win the event.

I’ve seen enough progression, specifically, from the  23 standpoint, that I can see where this can go. Obviously, putting himself in a playoff position year after year is good, but winning makes it better. It makes it good for the team; it makes it good for your sponsorships.

Denny Hamlin said via NBC Sports.

In the same time, one of the rookies of the 2025 season and the third driver of the team Riley Herbst hasn’t been racing at his best. Though the youngster isn’t performing on the level as he is expected, he is getting better every week.

The progression is smaller, but it is still happening with Riley (Herbst) as well. We started at the bottom of the cellar, and it is slowly but surely getting a little bit better.

Denny Hamlin asserted.

The third driver, and the biggest talent of the team Tyler Reddick is also running well, but lacking that race winning edge. They aren’t using the resources at their disposal to the fullest and Denny Hamlin wants hi s drivers to step up sooner than later, delivering them race wins.

That is what I’m looking at as an owner, but certainly, I need all my cars winning at some point. There are just too many resources, too many good people over there not to win more races, and certainly, I think we’ve underperformed as far as actual winning this year. We expect more, but a lot of it – I think we carry that burden.

Denny Hamlin added.

The comments from the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran shows the team is doing everything to secure a race win for the side in 2025. It would be interesting to how everything is going to playout for Michael Jordan’s team next week at Chicago and the remaining races of the season.
