The 2025 Caribbean Premier League came to an end but not without its share of drama. The Trinbago Knight Riders beat the 2024 runners-up Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final by 3 wickets and went on to lift their fifth CPL title.

It was also their first title since 2020 and second under the leadership of captain Kieron Pollard. However, despite lifting the trophy there was a bitter after-taste due to the constant booing the West Indian legend had to face from the crowd in Guyana.

The crowd at the Providence Stadium in Guyana was not at all kind to Pollard during the final and continued to boo him right until he won the title. Despite such an adverse reaction from the crowd Pollard maintained his calm when he was asked about his reactions to the booing.

Pollard expressed the sorrow he felt for the crowd that booed him. During the match, the entertaining Pollard at times also gave it back to the crowd, especially after he took catches at the boundary. He turned back a couple of times towards the crowd and made gestures that suggested that his team was beating the home side, Guyana.

It means a lot. But one thing I’ll say. There’s three countries in the Caribbean where we have played, the booing is boring now. We are still the laughing stock of cricket in the West Indies. You have a guy who has represented the entire Caribbean over a period of time, putting them on the map in the format. Yet, we still don’t appreciate him. I’m not bitter but I feel sorry, not for myself.

The legendary all-rounder went on to add:

Kieron Pollard plays cricket and that’s what I know. I got the opportunity, God has given me a talent, I have represented my family and my country. I don’t politicize things, I do it because I love the game and I love the sport. This means a lot five-time champions. Going around the Caribbean at 38 years old. But we’re still the laughing stock of cricket in the world.

This was not the first time Pollard was booed so aggressively in the CPL. He had to face a similar reception in 2024 as well when the crowd at the Darren Sammy stadium in St. Lucia started jeering him. It was weird as Pollard had captained the St. Lucia Kings a few years prior to that.

It has been over three years since Kieron Pollard played an international match for the West Indies. It has also been over three years since Pollard represented the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, the franchise that gave him the fame he today has worldwide.

Despite not playing such high-level tournaments of cricket and only a few leagues here and there, Pollard still holds the status of dominance with the bat. At the age of 38, Pollard won yet another player of the series award at the 2025 Caribbean Premier League.

The West Indies legend looked very much in form right from the get-go of the tournament and scored runs consistently for his side. In the 11 innings that he went out to bat, Pollard amassed a total of 383 runs at an excellent average of 54.71.

What made these numbers even better was the fact that they came at a staggering strike rate of 174.09. Pollard smashed a total of 36 sixes in the entire competition making him the highest six hitter of the season by a fair distance.

The next best was Nicholas Pooran with 29 sixes. To add to that Pollard smashed 20 fours and also scored 3 half centuries.
