LeBron James Endured Greatest Expectations in Sports History, Says Kendrick Perkins
Despite producing 23 seasons of exceptional basketball, many do not consider LeBron James as the greatest of all-time.

- LeBron James is set to lead the Lakers against the Thunder in the playoffs without Luka Doncic.
- Kendrick Perkins claims LeBron has faced unprecedented pressure in sports history since age 16.
- Critics continue to undermine LeBron's legacy, despite his sustained excellence over 21 years.
LeBron James is about to lead his Los Angeles Lakers teammates into battle against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the playoffs.
The task is considered nearly impossible to achieve as the men in purple and gold do not have leading scorer Luka Doncic to help them.
Austin Reaves is back, but his production has yet to match the heady days he experienced earlier in the regular season. That means most of the pressure is on the oldest player in the league.
James has to not only lead the team in scoring, but he also has to take care of playmaking until Reaves gets back into rhythm. Despite that, many critics believe that a loss to the Thunder will severely impact the King’s GOAT legacy.
There’s no other athlete in the history of sports… that’s been under the amount of pressure like LeBron James since the age of 16… Not one other athlete came to the league with the expectations of Michael Jordan and has exceeded expectations. He was set up to fail.
Kendrick Perkins said
The ESPN analyst made it clear to his First Take colleagues that because his former teammate has faced that much scrutiny and expectations, he has done a phenomenal job of surpassing many of them.
Kendrick Perkins says LeBron James has had the most pressure over any athlete in sports history:

That, according to Kendrick Perkins, is enough proof that no matter what happens in the series against the Thunder, LeBron James’ legacy as the greatest of all-time remains intact.
Gilbert Arenas chimes in on LeBron James’ greatness
Throughout his career, many critics have lined up outside LeBron James‘ house. They are still there when he is playing at his usual elite self at age 41.

Those critics find anything to undermine the Lakers’ superstar, and that is what Gilbert Arenas believes is them trying to be petty rather than objectively analyzing greatness.
If you stop trying to compare him to Michael Jordan to discredit him, and just look at him for himself, you can see how great he’s been for 21 years. Nobody in NBA history can say they’ve been that great that long.
Gilbert Arenas said on his namesake show
The former three-time All-Star added that those critics who place James in their top five only have negative things to say about him.
Gilbert Arenas says if you stop trying to compare LeBron to Jordan, to discredit him and just look at him for himself you can see how great he’s been:

On the other hand, they would glaze Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and the others on their lists. Arenas wonders why those same critics do not have any criticism when it comes to their favorites, but only reserve it whenever LeBron James is being discussed.
He asked those naysayers to stop the comparisons and criticism and objectively analyze the four-time league MVP’s career. Only then can they understand where his greatness lies.
Jeff Teague does not expect LeBron James to win more than one game against OKC
No matter what Gilbert Arenas or Kendrick Perkins say, LeBron James’ critics will not stop until the day comes when he hangs up his sneakers for good.
Now, their focus is on the second-round playoff series against OKC. As much as James’ supporters would want their superstar to silence his doubters, it is not an easy task.
I got it 4-1 OKC. I think LeBron’s good enough to get one game. Just ’cause he’s my GOAT. But I think OKC is just a machine right now… I just don’t see it being that much of a series.

The NBA champion believes that his former rival might be able to sneak one game. But the Thunder are so good in every aspect that it will be a long shot for LeBron James’ Lakers to do much more.
