Before joining WWE in 2016, AJ Styles was in the middle of a legendary run in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he established himself as the leader of the Bullet Club. Although Styles went on to deliver several instant classics in WWE, his NJPW run during the mid-2010s is still regarded by many fans as the period that cemented his legacy as one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time.

During that stretch, he shared the ring with some of wrestling’s biggest names and finest technicians, including Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson, Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Kenny Omega. Omega eventually turned on Styles and took over as the new leader of Bullet Club, marking the beginning of a new era for the faction.

While Styles transformed himself into a bona fide superstar in WWE, Omega continued to elevate his own legacy in NJPW with a string of unforgettable performances that solidified his place among the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.

Although fans never got to witness the long-awaited dream match between Styles and Omega in NJPW, many believed the possibility could still become a reality after Styles retires from WWE. During a recent episode of his Phenomenally Retro podcast, Styles finally opened up about the prospect of stepping into the ring with Omega for a dream showdown.

AJ Styles shuts down all the rumors of having his dream match against Kenny Omega

The WWE Hall of Famer addressed the speculations and rumors regarding him facing an AEW star in the near future. He further mentioned how everyone wants to see him face Kenny Omega and assured that the match might need something ‘crazy’ in order to happen.

Styles said, “The same dream match that everybody wants me to have with Kenny Omega. The match that’s never gonna happen unless something crazy happens, and I can’t imagine that”.

He further shut down any possibility of the match and praised Omega for his in-ring work, stating, “Kenny’s my buddy, so to be in the ring with him would be fun. We’d tear the house down, I have no doubt about that. But again, that’s not gonna happen”.

Since the rumors have always been around the corner, AJ Styles and Kenny Omega did have a match nearly two decades ago at PCW Back to School Bash, where Omega won the bout. While the two were not in their primes during the time, a match between the duo since their NJPW run would have been a masterpiece for most of the wrestling fans.

While many thought Styles might step into AEW after his WWE run, ‘The Phenomenal One’ indeed retired from professional wrestling for good and is loving his retirement phase.

AJ Styles encourages wrestlers to use his moves in their matches

AJ Styles wants his moves to last for a long time in the wrestling canon and encourages others to use his moves. While Dragon Lee and Will Ospreay have used his moves during their matches, Styles acknowledged the fact and said how he would love to see his moves being performed by other wrestlers.

He said, “Anybody who wants to use it, it’s all yours. The Phenomenal Forearm, use it. It’s out there. I know Ospreay does it. Do it, dude. It doesn’t bother me, not one bit. AJ Styles isn’t going to use it anymore. I hope it can find itself in professional wrestling for a long time.”

As his signature moves might stay in the wrestling realm for a long time, it remains to be seen which wrestler uses them next.
