Gunther is set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash In Italy, but another major talking point surrounding ‘The Ring General’ has been the shocking return of Brock Lesnar. Ever since Lesnar made his comeback, fans have been eager to see the two powerhouse stars finally collide before ‘The Beast Incarnate’ eventually calls time on his legendary career.
Known for his reputation as a “career killer,” Gunther has been viewed by fans as the perfect opponent to potentially retire Lesnar. Speculation around the blockbuster showdown has only intensified since the two briefly crossed paths during the Royal Rumble in 2023, teasing what could become one of WWE’s biggest dream matches in recent memory.
Speaking in a recent interview ahead of Clash In Italy, Gunther was asked about Lesnar’s return from retirement and whether the WWE Universe could finally see the long-awaited showdown between them. The Austrian appeared laser-focused on one thing only: defeating Rhodes and capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship. Despite being visibly intense throughout the interview, even taking shots at the Italian crowd at one point, Gunther still addressed the possibility of stepping into the ring with Lesnar in the near future.
Gunther hints about facing Brock Lesnar once he defeats Cody Rhodes
Reflecting on Brock Lesnar’s emotional moment against Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42, Gunther admitted that he was not even present in the arena when everything unfolded and only learned about it afterward through media coverage.
He said, “I wasn’t even there on that day at Mania, because it was the day after me, when a lot of it happened with Brock, so I only saw it in a headline and that’s literally all the info I had”.
Gunther went on to acknowledge that a match against Lesnar would undoubtedly be a massive opportunity now that ‘The Beast’ has returned. However, he made it clear that his entire focus remains on his upcoming Undisputed WWE Championship clash with Cody Rhodes. “Obviously, he’s back now, but I haven’t thought about it. I’m really focused on what I’m doing with Cody now”.
Still, Gunther did not completely shut the door on a future showdown with Lesnar and even hinted at the possibility once he handles business at Clash In Italy. “After I beat Cody, then Brock can challenge me, and we’ll do that”.
Gunther and Brock Lesnar have some huge tasks set for Clash in Italy
Brock Lesnar is determined to ruin the celebration for Oba Femi as he looks to bounce back from his disappointing loss at WrestleMania last month. With tensions continuing to rise between the two powerhouses, Paul Heyman has already informed Adam Pearce that Lesnar has officially challenged Oba Femi to a WrestleMania rematch.
Now, fans are eagerly waiting to see whether ‘The Beast Incarnate’ can finally overpower ‘The Ruler’ or if Femi will once again prove why he is one of WWE’s most dominant rising stars.
Meanwhile, Gunther is finally receiving widespread recognition after taking out several veteran names like John Cena and AJ Styles over the past few months, earning himself a massive Undisputed WWE Championship opportunity against Cody Rhodes at Clash In Italy. Their rivalry has been intensely competitive from the very beginning, with both superstars constantly trading momentum heading into the showdown.
Fans are expecting an incredibly physical and hard-hitting contest between The Ring General and The American Nightmare, especially given the personal intensity surrounding the feud. Gunther has confidently promised to defeat Rhodes in front of the Italian crowd, but only time will tell if he can finally capture the Undisputed WWE Championship for the first time in his career.
