In Short
  • Tyreek Hill has announced he is pursuing a career as a DJ in Miami while recovering from knee surgery.
  • The free agent wide receiver was released by the Miami Dolphins and is currently without a team.
  • Hill has contemplated retirement but remains open to returning to the NFL, potentially with the Kansas City Chiefs.

NFL players choosing music as an alternate route of income isn’t unheard of. Add Tyreek Hill’s name to the list of players as well. As question marks hang over his football career, Hill is making, or rather mixing, music as his new pastime.

Hill frequents social media more than probably any other NFL athlete. He streams Fortnite, creates controversial quarterback tier lists, and, most importantly, shares clips from his youth camps across the country.

So, it took many by surprise when Hill uploaded a video with a turntable setup that might even give tough competition to popular DJs (dance jockeys). He has fallen in love with mixing different songs to create one singular chartbuster. Of course, it takes time to produce a genuine masterpiece. Even David Gutta waited nearly twenty years for his songs to become global sensations.

Hill’s desire to succeed as a DJ is not a moment’s whim. The Super Bowl winner discovered an affinity for the craft last year while dealing with a season-ending knee injury.

Hill is currently without a club after the Miami Dolphins released him as part of a massive summer cleaning spree. He returned to Kansas City earlier in the year to continue his rehab, and now he’s back in Miami to learn more about the nitty-gritty of being a DJ.

NFL insider provides a grim update on Tyreek Hill’s rehab

Even though Hill is 32 and is dealing with a major injury, there’s still a market for him. He has been linked with a move back to the Chiefs.

The Chiefs also require an experienced head in the locker room, and head coach Andy Reid is known to reunite with former players for a second chance.

We go through everything and everybody. I mean, that’s how [general manager] Brett [Veach] does it. And I don’t even know if Tyreek [Hill] is healthy right now, to do anything. So, I’m sure he’s working hard.

Andy Reid said in February

It takes between nine and ten months for an athlete to fully recover from knee reconstruction. Which means Hill is likely to miss team OTAs if a team offers him a job. So, now the question is: when will he be ready?

Adam Schefter of ESPN touched upon that subject recently on the Pat McAfee Show.

Tyreek Hill is in an injury situation where he may not be ready till midway through the season.

Schefter said

That’s far from ideal for both Hill and the Chiefs, if they are looking to add him. Of course, KC will welcome him with open arms, but paying a lot of money to play four, maybe five games doesn’t make much sense.

Tyreek Hill has contemplated retirement

Life in the NFL is very uncertain. In one moment, a player is winning the Super Bowl, earning top money, and the next moment, he gets injured, eventually fading away into the pages of history. The NFL is filled with such stories.

Hill has made his mark on the game. In all likelihood, someday he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. But that’s a conversation for post-retirement golf meetings. Hill can still play a big role, and who knows, he may yet win a second ring. However, the thought of walking away from the game has also crossed his mind.

I’m at the point now where I need to have a conversation with Mom, family, everybody. Like I said, wherever my mind is at the time, the decision to be made, but I just know right now I feel like I haven’t had time to just live in the moment, and just be in the moment with my family.

Tyreek Hill said post-surgery

Hill has played 145 games, accumulating 819 catches for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns. He’s an eight-time Pro Bowler and a five-time All-Pro athlete.
