In Short
  • Cleveland Cavaliers prevented Knicks fans, including Fat Joe and Timothee Chalamet, from sitting courtside during Game 4.
  • The franchise relocated these fans to the second row to minimize distractions for their players.
  • Fat Joe expressed his frustration on NBA Today, emphasizing the long wait for Knicks success and the passionate support from fans.

There is no doubt that whoever the New York Knicks play, quite a lot of their fans try to take over the opposing team’s arena. In the playoffs, superfans Fat Joe, Timothee Chalamet, and others have also done so.

Much has been made of how the presence of Knicks fans has impacted opposing teams. They have been labeled as loud and overtly passionate, and that they distract opponents with their noise and trash talk.

Teams and their players have begged their fans to stop selling their tickets to New Yorkers. But when those from the Big Apple show their willingness to pay over the top, locals tend to cash in.

Joel Embiid went as far as to say that he would compensate Philly fans who feel like they want to earn a profit. But his pleas fell on deaf ears when the Knicks came to town during their 0-4 sweep.

Now that the same has happened with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the franchise is doing everything it can to keep Knicks fans at bay.

We had bought some courtside tickets to the game. Once they found out that Super fan Fat Joe, they was like, I can’t sit courtside. New York Knicks fans can’t sit courtside. They took the tickets away. We purchased it, so shame on you.

Fat Joe revealed on NBA Today

This was the rapper revealing the Cavaliers’ tactics to avoid the ‘noisy’ Knicks fans from occupying the front rows. The franchise possibly believes that seating them a couple of rows back will help their players avoid the distractions they bring.

While the cast of NBA Today found it egregious that the Cleveland Cavaliers would take away the courtside tickets these Knicks fans paid big money for, there was nothing anyone could do.

The franchise reserves the right to modify or cancel tickets as it sees fit. That is part of the fine print that every ticket comes with, no matter how much money was paid.

In the case of superfans Fat Joe, Timothee Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, and Tracy Morgan, the Cavs decided to give them tickets in the second row. Video clips from Game 4 reveal how they had to sit behind a wall of Cavaliers fans.

But it seems that did not deter them. One of the first things they did once they took their seats was to remove the ‘I love Cleveland Cavaliers‘ t-shirts that were draped over every seat at Rocket Arena.

Then, they continued to cheer their players as the Knicks were about to battle the home team to seal their return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1973.

Fat Joe explains why he is in Cleveland

When Fat Joe appeared on NBA Today ahead of the ECF Game 4, host Malika Andrews asked him whether he felt this was his New York Knicks booking their tickets to the NBA Finals.

That’s why I came to Cleveland, so we can be done tonight. I’d be home sleeping peacefully. I want to get this over with.

Fat Joe replied

The 55-year-old pointed out that he and the rest of the city have been waiting for this for more than five decades. That is why he and his fellow New Yorkers flew to Cleveland to give the players the support they needed to finish the job.

Joe also reiterated that there was no doubt that Knicks fans are going to go berserk once they clinch their NBA Finals berth. He knows many have called them out for being over the top.

But he reminded those critics that New Yorkers do not know what success is. Therefore, they do not know how to act the way other fans of successful teams do.
