One of the major criticisms from the NASCAR fans about the current generation of racers is the fact that, barring one or two, there aren’t really any drivers who is capable attracting attention with their unique character. 23XI Racing veteran Bubba Wallace might have revealed once reason for the deficiency recently.
On his most recent appearance on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, he was asked about the dynamic that exits in the garage and how the interact with each other. The 2025 Brickyard race winner admitted that unlike in the past, but has become softer, with aggressive language getting sidelined for gentler conversations.
Our locker room talk is way different. Our coach talk is way different than what you guys go through. ‘Hey motherf**ker, you need to get your shit together’ like we gotta ‘hey man, you want to go out to lunch. Let’s talk about our performance’ and it needs to happen because we got a lot of softies in our sport…

One main reason for the change, according to Bubba Wallace, is the fact that the teams are hiring more young engineers and mechanics. Most of them were never part of the aggressive environment, hence the teams had to readjust their work culture to accommodate for these new recruits. But at the end of the day, only the approach has changed, the target goal is still to win races.
You went from more mechanical people to now more engineer background. And so, people coming from four-year degrees or master’s degrees and in college and looking at computer screens and not having their a** shoot out…We’re all pushing towards the end goal. It’s just we got a massage one side that to where I’m like, no, when I s**k you better tell me.

Bubba Wallace shared his thoughts on teammate Tyler Reddick’s 2026 dominance
In the same conversation, the veteran talked about the impressive performance of teammate Tyler Reddick, who has won five races in 2026 while he remains winless in the No:23 car. He is feeling both jealousy and motivation about the domination. Wallace is disappointed that he has failed to capitalize of moments like his colleague.

When you see your teammates win, you can allow a bit of jealousy to set in, but also you can allow more motivation than anything because you see that we have the same equipment. we have basically we go through the same meetings, the same processes, and he’s able to capitalize. I’m not. And you look at the whys, and you try to minimize those whys, and you go out and get it.
Bubba Wallace said.
So far in the in the 2026 season Wallace has secured just three top-5 runs from 13 races and is currently 13 in the championship table, 292 points behind teammate who is P1. It’s a concerning point gap and he is worried about it. But at the same time, he respect his teammates domination and is looking to get inspired by it.
He’s been kicking all of our a**es this year. every race he’s top five and you…think somebody is going to cut down the points gap, but nope, he’s right there capitalizing on it. So, when you’re when you’re on, you’re on, right? And you can’t hate it. You got to respect it.
Bubba Wallace added.
The comments from the 23XI racing drivers are on point and the front runners at Toyota might have the same feelings. The No:23 team will have more opportunities to win in the reminder of the season and at the end of the day, it will be up to the driver to make a difference.
