Dominik Mysterio has advanced to the semifinals of the ongoing King of the Ring tournament. He emerged victorious in a chaotic first-round matchup on this week’s SmackDown, pinning Damian Priest. It also comprised Bron Breakker and Trick Williams, both of which were protected by not being involved in the pinning sequence.

Mysterio saved the match for himself at a critical juncture when Williams covered Priest, who had just eaten a spear from Breakker. The Judgment Day member pulled the referee out of the ring, thus halting the count. The closing moments saw JD McDonagh getting involved in the match when Priest was measuring Mysterio up for a chokeslam.

McDonagh jumped off the top rope, only to be caught and planted with a ring-shaking South of Heaven chokeslam by the former world champion. The match referee went over to McDonagh to check on him, getting momentarily distracted and therefore allowing Liv Morgan to hit a low blow on Damian Priest, who had Mysterio held up high in the air.

Morgan’s timely intervention led to her boyfriend hitting the 619 and a frog splash to steal the win over his former Judgment Day stablemate. The son of Rey Mysterio went over to the entrance stage where the King of the Ring crown was enclosed. He then looked at the camera and asked Oba Femi to count his days down. ‘The King of the Luchadores’ said on Raw that ‘The Ruler’ should be scared of him.

Femi dispatched the likes of Carmelo Hayes, Penta, and Solo Sikoa in his first-round KOTR match and is now placed to take on Mysterio this coming Monday on Raw in France. It’d be interesting to see what trick Mysterio will pull out of his bag to stand a chance against ‘The Bringer of War’.

Some fans are fearing that Brock Lesnar might cost Oba Femi against Dominik Mysterio. However, it doesn’t seem like WWE will make Femi suffer another pinfall loss, especially at the hands of Mysterio. ‘The Beast’ is still expected to screw Femi up in the finals of the KOTR tournament at Night of Champions.

Dominik Mysterio lamented WWE having no significant plans for him

It was recently reported on WrestleVotes Radio via Fightful Select that there’s some internal frustration in WWE regarding the lack of direction for both Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan since WrestleMania 42. At the grandest wrestling spectacle in Vegas, Mysterio lost to his former Judgment Day brother Finn Balor, who brought out his ‘Demon’ persona at the marquee event.

Meanwhile, his on-screen girlfriend, Morgan, hasn’t defended the women’s world title even once since capturing it from Stephanie Vaquer at WrestleMania. Circling back to ‘Dom’, it sure seems like he’s aware of the fact that WWE hasn’t done anything substantial with him in recent months. The 29-year-old caught up with Esse Magazine before Clash in Italy, and he reflected on not making the card for the PLE.

The reigning AAA Mega Champion outright stated that WWE has no idea what to do with him at this point. The 2-time Intercontinental Champion boasted about having beaten the likes of John Cena, AJ Styles, Damian Priest, and even his so-called deadbeat dad, Rey Mysterio.

Even after having that many accolades under his belt, WWE hasn’t figured out a direction for him, which Mysterio failed to understand and didn’t know what the company was waiting for.

‘Dirty Dom’ scored the biggest win of his career when he beat Cena to regain the IC title at Survivor Series last year. The ending of that match witnessed the return of Liv Morgan from a shoulder injury. It appeared as if Mysterio would embark on a memorable run with the championship belt.

However, he unfortunately picked up an injury in December while teaming up with El Grande Americano against his dad and Rey Fenix at AAA Guerra de Titanes. It kept him away from WWE television for almost 1.5 months, and he eventually lost the Intercontinental Championship to Penta in early March. It ended his forgettable run with the title at 93 days and no successful title defenses.
