Even before Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, and their New York Knicks reached the NBA Finals, ticket prices started to soar. Fans did not want to be priced out of watching something the city had not experienced in more than five decades.

Madison Square Garden already ranks at the top when it comes to ticket prices in the regular season. The mere fact that the city is the economic capital means fans do not hesitate to spend good money to watch the Knicks.

On top of that, the appearance of celebrities and the who’s who of New York makes it appealing for fans, as they can surely expect a spectacle.

When all of these points, along with the first Finals game in nearly three decades, happen at Madison Square Garden, it led to some insane ticket prices. During the Knicks’ media session, Josh Hart was asked about the passionate New York fan base, and he said this:

I kinda wish the ticket prices weren’t as crazy as they are. I feel like a lot of people who have been waiting for this moment for a very long time, unfortunately, aren’t able to get into the building. Cheapest ticket, $7-8000 is ridiculous.

The 31-year-old pointed out how those ridiculous prices are keeping away a lot of passionate fans. But at the same time, he acknowledged and thanked them for their support.

As someone who has generally delved into the lighter side of the NBA, this was a serious opinion from Josh Hart. He wanted more fans to have access, but they may already have.

Fans paying more than Super Bowls to watch Josh Hart and his Knicks in NBA Finals

Prices for games 3 & 4 at Madison Square Garden had already surpassed anything an NBA team has witnessed in its history. As Josh Hart said, the get-in price for the nosebleeds was $8,000. But by now, those numbers have long been surpassed.

All three home games at MSG are now pricing above every Super Bowl we’ve ever tracked — except Super Bowl 58… The Knicks have none of those external factors. This is pure, 27-year pent-up demand for a championship moment at MSG, and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen on SeatGeek.

Forbes quoted Oliver Marvin

That was SeatGeek’s Senior Director of Finance revealing that other than Super Bowl 58, which featured the dynastic Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, the Knicks’ Games 3, 4 & 6 are costlier than any of the biggest games in NFL history.

The NBA has been living in the NFL’s shadow for quite some time, and the rivalry is disappearing every year. This season, the viewership ratings are back where they belong, but no one envisioned fans helping the league beat the NFL in this lifetime.

Moreover, Super Bowl 58 had Taylor Swift in attendance and was held in Las Vegas for the first time. The Knicks, as Marvin mentioned, are nothing in comparison. Yet, they are obliterating ticket prices.

Game 4 get-in prices surpass $13,000

Josh Hart might not be up to date with the ticket prices at Madison Square Garden. The $8,000 price point no longer exists, and now it is trending into eye-popping numbers.

As per TickPick, the cheapest ticket for Game 4 at Madison Square Garden is now priced at $13,065. Even LeBron James‘ failed regular-season retirement game was a fraction of that amount.

He is the biggest superstar in the league, yet it seems nothing can topple the passion that New Yorkers have for the Knicks. The New York Giants may have won two championships in this century, and the New York Liberty did it a couple of years ago.

But it seems, as ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith often mentions, his fellow New Yorkers bleed orange and blue more than any other color available in the city.
