Hours before Donald Trump arrived for Game 3 of the NBA Finals, New York Knicks fans were lining up outside Madison Square Garden after law enforcement and the franchise handed out specific instructions.
It meant fans would not be able to carry bags into the Arena and were instructed not to carry more than what was necessary with them.
Along with that, the Knicks informed fans that they would have to go through a TSA-style security check before they would be allowed inside the iconic venue.
Knowing this was going to be tough and time-consuming, the franchise advised fans to arrive at least two hours before tip-off. This meant that fans would have to just wait and kill time until it was their turn to be screened.
The Secret Service had set up fencing around Madison Square Garden and was also lining the streets along with NYPD officers to ensure fans followed instructions.
These situations can get quite frustrating and boring for anyone. But not so much for the Knicks fans standing outside Pennsylvania Station and on the streets when a certain Donald Trump arrived.

This was not the most powerful man in the world. Rather, it was an impersonator, dressed in his unmistakable black suit, white shirt, red tie, and a MAGA hat.
The man in question took pictures with fans, posed with some of them, and even spoke in the President’s voice. He even had a microphone hooked onto his jacket, which means he was making something out of this occasion.
Adam Silver reaffirms Donald Trump’s Knicks fandom
With all of this happening outside Madison Square Garden, the crew of Inside the NBA was on the court talking about the game. When commissioner Adam Silver joined them, he was asked about Donald Trump’s arrival.
He was a fixture at Madison Square Garden… Back in the old days, he had courtside seats. He was here all the time, he was at Drafts. So, he’s a genuine Knicks fan.
Adam Silver said
This was the Commissioner reiterating that the President has been a die-hard Knicks fan, irrespective of his political statements about New York.

“What makes sports so special, especially when there’s so much that divides people, is it’s something that we have in common. We should look for those things we have in common and build off that.” pic.twitter.com/MiRfJ0ajB5
Silver then went on to acknowledge that fans are facing some inconvenience due to the heightened security arrangements. But then, he also pointed out how that, and the massive ticket prices, did not deter fans from packing the Garden.
The Commissioner also mentioned that Trump’s arrival should be a good sign for the NBA. He knows how the President’s previous stint irked players and fans enough to become some of his most vocal critics.
It seems Silver wants the league to accept the Knicks fandom Trump has and start rebuilding relations through that shared an interest in basketball.
Donald Trump sat behind bulletproof glass inside MSG
As Adam Silver mentioned, Donald Trump was a regular at Madison Square Garden quite a few years ago. In those times, he would have courtside seats, something that is reserved for the Knicks’ most ardent supporters.

Now, since he is the most important man in the country, courtside seats will not suffice, not because of luxury, but because he needs to be shielded from any threat.
If the Secret Service built a fence around the arena to keep fans at a distance, it would be no surprise if they did the same inside before Game 3 started. Videos show Trump seated in the luxury suite behind a wall of bulletproof glass. After all the attempts on his life, there was no chance he could return to take a courtside seat.

Maybe he can once he is done with his public service life, as former president Barack Obama enjoys. But for now, bulletproof glass is the only way he can watch the action.
