Dana White has dealt with many fighters of different personalities throughout his tenure as CEO and president. Across decades, he has managed disputes involving UFC athletes. Few fighters have been as outspoken and controversial as Sean Strickland. The middleweight champion recently claimed he was banned from UFC Freedom 250. However, White recently clarified the decision-making process.
Strickland is controversial for outspoken political views during UFC media events and interviews. He has supported relaxed US gun laws, framing firearm ownership as essential for personal protection. Strickland has also criticized US government policies and modern cultural issues in current affairs discussions. His unfiltered remarks in press appearances have drawn consistent backlash across social media.
Strickland recently posted on X claiming UFC officials did not permit him to attend the June 14th event despite being the only male undisputed American champion on the roster. The post drew attention across MMA circles and triggered backlash from parts of the community. White has now clarified that ‘Tarzan’ was not banned, but believed his previous comments influenced the handling of attendance.
Sean Strickland is banned from humanity; we don’t want him near any human beings anywhere. He made it very clear he didn’t want to be a part of this event, and now apparently he’s banned. Nobody is banned. This is obviously a very unique event; there’s only so much room. There’s only 4300 tickets.

White’s comments appeared to reference Strickland’s previous remarks about the White House event and American leadership. Earlier, the controversial superstar criticized President Donald Trump‘s foreign policy positions while expressing little interest in attending the event altogether. He has also opposed US involvement in overseas conflicts and questioned America’s support for certain international allies.
White has consistently defended Strickland throughout past controversies by maintaining the UFC’s stance on free speech and fighter expression. Rather than disciplining him for controversial remarks, White has repeatedly argued that athletes are entitled to their opinions. He recently dismissed Strickland’s apparent personality shift after UFC 328 as an act, making it clear he did not buy the change.
However, the UFC has appeared to tread more carefully since signing its $7.7 billion media rights deal with Paramount+. That approach was evident when Sean Strickland’s microphone was cut off during a heated rant at the UFC Houston post-fight press conference. Even so, Dana White has remained committed to defending fighters’ right to speak freely while balancing the UFC’s growing responsibilities.

Sean Strickland has recently drawn attention for criticizing American foreign policy and US support for Israel amid the Middle East conflict. The middleweight champion used social media to question America’s involvement overseas and its backing of Israeli military actions. His comments sparked a public feud with Justin Gaethje, who criticized Strickland’s stance and online posts regarding the issue.

Strickland’s standing rose significantly at UFC 328 when he defeated Khamzat Chimaev to become a two-time middleweight champion. The victory cemented his position as the UFC’s only male undisputed American champion heading into UFC Freedom 250. According to Strickland, UFC executive Hunter Campbell told him after the win that he would be allowed to attend the historic event.
To Dana saying I wasn’t invited… I’ll clarify for this to you. After my fight Hunter said he will get it done. UFC filmed it and embedded has the footage. I later got a call from the UFC saying ‘I wasn’t cleared by the White House.’

With attendance expected to be tightly controlled, UFC Freedom 250 will operate under unique logistical restrictions. Dana White has revealed the main arena will accommodate roughly 4,500 to 5,000 spectators, while the surrounding Ellipse area is expected to hold around 85,000 people. Given those limits, the UFC may be restricting access for some of its champions and fighters as it manages event attendance.
