Jon Rahm once again lost his cool on Friday. The former World No.1 was left frustrated with his game during the second round of the U.S. Open and dropped another expletive on the golf course before missing the cut.

Rahm, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, had a good start to the tournament. The LIV Golf star entered this tournament hoping for his first major title since the 2023 Masters Tournament triumph.

In the opening round, the Spaniard fired a bogey-free 68 with 2 birdies on the back nine. This saw him in contention for the title.

On Friday, though, things went downhill for him. A bogey on the 4th hole was followed by a birdie on the 5th hole. Following this, he made back-to-back bogeys on the 6th and 7th holes.

He was not having a great time with his putter. He missed several close-range putts for pars and birdies. On the 9th hole, he missed another birdie putt as the ball rolled over sideways instead of dropping in.

A frustrated Rahm lost his cool for a moment. He would flip his golf club in the air and was heard dropping a huge expletive.

This is obviously not the first time Rahm has dropped some huge words at a golf course. Several times in the past, he has lost his cool and snapped. Last year at the Open Championship, he snapped back at a spectator after getting distracted by some noise from the crowd.

Rahm’s train went completely off the tracks on the back nine on Friday. He made 4 successive bogeys from Holes 12 to 15. All of them were par-4 holes.

He then made a double bogey. On the par-5 16th hole, he made a score of 7. He wrapped up the round with pars on holes 17 and 18 and finished with a score of 8-over 78.

The Legion XIII captain eventually finished with a 6-over par score. With the cutline being 4-over par, he missed the cut at this major.

This marks just the second time he has missed the cut in a major since missing the cut at the 2019 PGA Championship. This also comes after he finished as the runner-up at the PGA Championship a month ago.

Jon Rahm among elite names to miss the cut at the U.S. Open

The 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills was expected to be brutal. The tournament saw some of the biggest names in golf fail to make it through the weekend. Jon Rahm was among some elite names who had to take an early leave.

Rahm had been in fine form this season. He sits on top of the LIV Golf individual standings with 2 wins, 4 runners-up, and 2 top-10 finishes. The only time he has finished outside of the top-10 has been in South Korea, where he came T16.

Just behind him on the standings is Bryson DeChambeau. The American international was also among those who missed the cut.

Having missed the cut at the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship before, this marked a 3 straight major event where he missed the cut. This was the first time in his career that he missed the cut in 3 successive major championships.

Last year, J.J. Spaun claimed his first major title by winning the U.S. Open. He was the only player to finish under par for the tournament.

His title defense got off to the worst possible start with a 7-over par score in the first round. He missed the cut while finishing 8-over par for the event following a score of 71 in the second round.

Other marquee names that missed the cut were Patrick Cantlay, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, Adam Scott, Shane Lowry, Viktor Hovland, Rickie Fowler, Alex Smalley, and Min Woo Lee.

Meanwhile, 5 amateurs made the cut. Ryder Cowan, who stole the spotlight in Round 1, fired a score of 72 in Round 2 and was T11 at the halfway stage.

Miles Russell, who qualified for this tournament while having Charlie Woods as his caddie, carded a round of 71 on Friday and made the cut. Jackson Koivun, Marek Fleming, and Eric Lee were the other amateurs who made a huge statement this week by making the cut.
