Some critics have labeled Jannik Sinner an unenjoyable player due to his straightforward approach to his game on the court. The Italian star is known to finish off his matches in straight sets and has won several titles already this season. His coach Darren Cahill has revealed that some quiet characters of Sinner make him an enjoyable player on tour.

Cahill has been instrumental in Sinner’s growth in recent years, fitting perfectly into his role as the World No.1 coach alongside Simone Vagnozzi. In fact, it has been reported that Cahill is something of a second father to Sinner, which led him to postpone his retirement, which he had announced last year.

Sinner is known as one of the quietest players on tour, in stark contrast to his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz, who is more open during press conferences and at tournaments. Also, Sinner rarely shows emotion on the court, as he’s focused solely on his match and winning titles.

Notwithstanding, the Italian star has millions of supporters and fans from all over the world. He’s set to compete at the Wimbledon Championships, where he’s the favorite to win the title for the second consecutive year. He won the grass-court Grand Slam last year after defeating Alcaraz in four sets.

Sinner is yet to win a Grand Slam this season, and this is the first time in the past two years that he has reached the middle of the year without winning a major. During an interview on air with the BBC Sports, Cahill pointed out that Sinner has a great personality and great values, which people around him love:

Jannik is fundamentally a good guy, a person with great values. He always has a smile on his face and loves having fun, joking around with friends, and making the people around him feel good. The person you see on the court is not the one you see in everyday life.

Sinner and Alcaraz’s relationship is enough proof of Cahill’s statement. The rivals share a good bond off and on the court, despite facing each other in several crucial stages on tour since 2024. Alcaraz defeated Sinner in four finals last year, while losing two to the Italian star, but after each loss, they always talk at the net after the traditional handshake at the end of a match.

Jannik Sinner’s chances of defending Wimbledon following his Roland Garros early exit

Jannik Sinner has been in extraordinary form this season. Despite his shocking second-round loss at the French Open, he has been by far the best player in the men’s circuit. He won five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles from March to May, an extraordinary achievement that has set him apart from other players on tour.

He’s considered the favorite to win Wimbledon despite the Roland Garros disappointment against Juan Manuel Cerundolo because of the absence of Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz is a two-time Wimbledon champion and has reached the final three consecutive times. Also, Novak Djokovic, who is a seven-time winner, is not in his best form on tour.

Djokovic’s last match ended in a five-set defeat against Joao Fonseca at the French Open. The former World No.1 was two sets up before the Brazilian teenager rallied back into the match with an impressive display in the third round. In fact, Djokovic has won just two of his last three matches on tour, which is poor by his standards.

Sinner didn’t take part in any warm-up tournament ahead of Wimbledon, which leaves room for doubt. But he has already revealed that he’s back to his best physically and ready to challenge for the championship. The Wimbledon draw will be conducted on Friday (May 27), revealing his first-round opponent.
