The Indiana Fever did not envision Sophie Cunningham as their de facto enforcer when it comes to standing up for Caitlin Clark and other players.
They traded for her with the view that her experience, shooting off the bench, and elite perimeter defense would help them march towards their goal of battling for a championship.
Her on-court performances last season and this year proved that their trust in her was justified. But little did they know that her feistiness would be talked about more than her on-ball skills.
When she manhandled Jacy Sheldon after the then-Connecticut Sun guard poked Caitlin Clark in the eye, Indiana Fever fans showed her love by chanting her name.
Her Instagram was flooded with new followers, and brand endorsements lined up outside her door. This season, her scoring was doing the talking until Cunningham raised a finger at DeWanna Bonner.
The incident happened when the latter had an altercation with Clark. The Missouri native decided to let her former teammate know that it was not right on her part. She just stood close and continuously pointed a finger at Bonner. That irked the latter and led to some more skirmishes. But everyone took note, particularly on social media.
A short version of that clip just shows Sophie Cunningham pointing her finger with an expression that she is taking note. This clip instantly became a meme, with fans, celebrities, and even organizations using it as a troll.

It so happened that on X, this clip went viral enough to become the most-shared meme in recent memory. So much so that it has caused a phenomenon, which is unlikely to stop.
Sophie Cunningham’s meme spans fast-food chains and Merriam-Webster dictionary
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has the distinction of creating some of the most viral memes used on social media. But now, at least for a short while, Sophie Cunningham has taken over.
When you spot your mate with no money, adding wings to the order.

This was the $15.6 billion fast-food chain’s media department using the meme to create humor. But they were not alone. The original clipped video posted by a user named Jerry Watkins has racked up 17 million views.

That is the power of social media: it takes something that starts to trend, and if more people search for it, it spreads beyond its intended target group. No wonder Domino’s Pizza UK got into the act. But they were not the weirdest organization to use this meme.

Not one person associated with sports would have expected a dictionary company to use Sophie Cunningham‘s meme to channel education and learning. It seems the Missouri Tiger might be on her way to earning a lot more followers and endorsement deals if this continues.
Sophie Cunningham had fans asking her for pictures with the finger-point taunt
Memes were not the only aspect associated with fans of Sophie Cunningham. Ahead of their second game against the Phoenix Mercury, some Fever fans, both young and old, wanted to take pictures with the guard.

When she approached them, they asked her to re-enact her finger-pointing taunt so that they could take selfies and videos. The former second-round pick gladly obliged, knowing everyone was getting a chuckle out of it.

Cunningham has come a long way since her early days in the WNBA, when she was known only as a bench-warmer. Now, she has become just as much a household name as some of the league’s most well-known faces, barring, of course, her superstar teammate.
