One of the worst fears new fans arriving in the WNBA had was whether Caitlin Clark would play every game. Nowadays, the Indiana Fever have been placing her on the injury list as a ‘probable’ before every scheduled battle.

That fear started in her rookie season when fans felt that the extreme physicality she faced from ‘petty’ opponents was going to injure her at some point.

When she struggled with soft-tissue injuries last season, they were quick to blame that Clark bulking up to endure the beating she gets was the reason she struggled with the changes to her body.

This season, she had shed a bit of that bulk with the hope of avoiding those injuries. It worked during the FIBA regional qualifiers in Puerto Rico, where she won tournament MVP.

But a few games in, when the Fever started to list her as ‘probable,’ the anxiety increased. They criticized the franchise for using this excuse to avoid tickets being cancelled for one game, and even drew a warning from the league.

Then came the game against the Phoenix Mercury, and all hell broke loose. Her first incident with Alyssa Thomas thankfully did not lead to an injury.

But the second, where a Mercury player accidentally entered her landing space, led her to leave the game. She grabbed her back, indicating that something was not right.

During practice ahead of their next game against the Los Angeles Sparks, head coach Stephanie White confirmed that Caitlin Clark will not be available.

Fans lose their minds after Caitlin Clark is ruled out

Had it been one game, it would have been fine, since Caitlin Clark has been struggling with her back for quite a while. But when Stephanie White did not have a clear answer as to how long her point guard would be out, fans lost it.

They took to social media to call out both the Phoenix Mercury and the WNBA’s officiating team for not protecting the league’s ‘golden goose.’ Some called for her to quit the league, while others wanted the top brass to take a stand. Examples of those reactions are below.

From now until the Fever’s next game, Caitlin Clark will get more than a week to rest her back. That way, she can get all the time necessary with the team’s medical staff and hope to recover properly for the next stretch.

Caitlin Clark-less Fever will have to do the job against the Sparks

When Clark departed for the medical room, her Indiana Fever were in a position to win that game against the Phoenix Mercury. All they had to do was make plays and keep their opponents at bay.

But the away team capitalized on the lack of playmaking and staged a comeback in the fourth quarter. The hope is that it does not happen when the Los Angeles Sparks arrive.

The Hollywood-based team is without two of its best players, Kelsey Plum and Cameron Brink. However, they, too, can take advantage of the Fever’s lack of playmaking and speed, two of the characteristics Clark brings to their game.

The home team will have to ensure that they do not forget how they played last season when the Iowa native was out for a significant period. If they can revert to that, they may avoid losing a second game in a row.
