Wimbledon’s main draw is set to kick off on June 29 (Monday) at the All England Club in London. The tournament, which is the third Grand Slam of the year, is regarded as one of the most beloved events on tour, with legends like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic naming it as their best completion. At this year’s edition, players will be competing for one of the biggest prize money in the sport.
The biggest names at Wimbledon are the two GOATs of tennis, Serena Williams and Djokovic, who have won a combined 47 Grand Slam singles titles and will bid for history at this year’s event. Williams, who is 44, marked her return to competitive tennis in the doubles category at the Queen’s Club Championships.
Wimbledon will be her first competitive singles since the 2022 US Open, where she first retired. Should she pull the improbable by winning the tournament, she would tie Margaret Court‘s record of 24 major titles. Djokovic, on the other hand, has an opportunity to become the first player to win 25 Grand Slams.
The Serbian legend has been seeking the elusive 25th Slam since winning the 2023 US Open. He has managed to reach just two finals since then, one in Wimbledon back in 2024 and the other at the Australian Open in January. With the absence of two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz, he has the chance to claim the championship at the All England Club.
Nonetheless, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek are the defending champions of the men’s and women’s singles. The former won the title last year after beating Alcaraz in four sets at the Center Court, while Swiatek produced an unforgettable performance, beating Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to win her first grass-court title.
Sinner is regarded as the favorite to win Wimbledon despite his shocking exit from the French Open. The Italian star enters the tournament without a warm-up event, having been closely monitored by his team since his loss to Juan Manuel Cerundolo. He has admitted that he’s fine and ready to challenge for the title, stressing that his early exit at Roland Garros was necessary.
Alexander Zverev is one of the favorites to win Wimbledon. The German star claimed his maiden Grand Slam at the French Open, ending his bitter spell of three consecutive final losses. He featured in Germany ahead of Wimbledon and reached the semi-finals before losing to Taylor Fritz at the Halle Open.
Prize money for the 2026 Wimbledon Championships
Wimbledon announced a 20% increase in total prize money for this year’s edition, a record increase in the tournament’s history. The singles champion for the women’s and men’s will earn $4.8 million. The total prize money, including players per stage in the competition, is $85.8 million.

| Round | Prize Money |
| Round 1 | $107,350 |
| Round 2 | $169,076 |
| Round 3 | $248,247 |
| Round 4 | $402,563 |
| Quarterfinal | $644,101 |
| Semifinal | $1,207,689 |
| Runner-up | $2,415,378 |
| Winner | $4,830,756 |
The winner of this year’s Wimbledon will claim 2,000 ranking points, while the runner-up will pick 1,300 points (1,200 for men). Semi-finalists will get 780 points, and quarter-finalists will get 430. A round of 16 finish guarantees 240 points, while a third round place has just 130 points. The first and second rounds have 10 and 70 points, respectively.
However, the top tennis stars on the ATP and WTA tours are not too pleased with their share of the total prize pool. Although acknowledging the significant increase, the players’ representatives believe it’s still below their demanding 16% of the tournament’s total revenue pool.
They have decided to embark on a planned protest at the All England Club, by having just a 15-minute pre-tournament press conference and not engaging in broadcast media who have paid heavily to earn their rights at the event.
Wimbledon has slammed the actions as disappointing and unnecessary, stressing that players fail to take into account the fact that they have invested much to make the All England Club more conducive for them and fans.
