John Cena is opening up about the profound responsibility he feels every time he grants a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The WWE star and actor reflected on his long-standing philanthropic work during an appearance on The Pete Davidson Show on Netflix, where Davidson praised Cena’s record-setting commitment to the organization.
The conversation focused on the emotional impact of meeting children with critical illnesses and why Cena believes the role requires complete dedication and presence.
Cena explained that participating in the program means taking on a responsibility that goes far beyond simply showing up. “When you agree to do that, you are signing up to be the hope. Be the hope,” he said.
While describing the experience as deeply rewarding, Cena acknowledged that it can also be emotionally challenging. He noted that those involved must set aside their own concerns and devote their full attention to the children and their families.
“I think Make-A-Wish is a beautiful thing. I also don’t think it’s for everybody, because it is very sensitive, right? It is very emotional,” he said.
Cena added that he never wants a child’s wish to end in disappointment after asking to meet him. “The one thing I don’t ever want to do is for some kid to say, ‘The one thing I really want to do is kick it with John Cena’ and me go in there and not be the hope,” he added.
