Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees have hit a major skid. On Wednesday, the Bronx Bombers lost a 7th successive game as the Detroit Tigers completed a 3-game sweep. Following the loss, Yankees fans once again blasted their manager.

In recent years, June has typically been the month when the team struggles. Last week, the AL East team took 2 out of the 3 games against the Tigers. This improved their season record to 48-31.

Since then, their train has derailed a bit. They got swept in a 4-game series at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. This came at a time when their arch-rivals were languishing at the bottom of the AL East standings.

This week began with a 7-3 loss against the Tigers. Cam Schlittler, the star pitcher of the team this season, gave up 3 home runs in the first inning. The highly anticipated pitching duel between him and Tarik Skubal turned into a one-sided battle as the AL Central team took the series opener.

On Tuesday, the New York-based side was crushed again. They managed just 4 hits and lost 9-3. After the game, Aaron Boone claimed that the team had a “crappy” week.

Wednesday saw the Tigers take a 2-0 lead into the 9th inning. The Yankees leveled the game at 2-2 after a solo home run from Amed Rosario and a wild pitch, which allowed Jazz Chisholm Jr. to score.

The Tigers took the lead in the 11th inning through a bases-loaded walk given up by Camilo Doval. Later, Zach McKinstry hit a single to right fielder Jose Caballero, which saw Riley Greene and Hao-Yu Lee come home to make it a 5-2 game.

Catcher Ali Sanchez then made a fielding error in this play. As he tried to catch McKinstry at second base, his throw went high in the outfield, leading to Spencer Torkelson scoring as well and giving the Tigers a 6-2 lead.

The Yankees were unable to deal with his hammer blow and lost 6-2. This meant they not only lost 7 games in a row, but also got swept in back-to-back series.

This is the Yankees’ longest losing skid since August 2023, when they lost 9 games in a row. That time, their streak was broken with a historic 3-home run game by Aaron Judge against the Washington Nationals.

Social media reacts to Aaron Boone and Yankees losing 7 games in a row

Users on X blasted Boone for the millionth time. Several of them urged the team to fire him, with one user writing, “Boone can never right the ship.“

Check out that and some other reactions regarding this development below:

Last week, there was a managerial firing in New York. Following a 6th straight loss, former Yankees coach Carlos Mendoza was relieved of his duties by the New York Mets. He became the 3rd manager after Alex Cora (Boston Red Sox) and Rob Thompson (Philadelphia Phillies) to be dismissed this year.

Aaron Boone claims Yankees are capable of doing more following 7-game losing streak

The New York Yankees have stumbled in the past few days. After having a 48-31 record, the team is now 48-38 with 7 consecutive losses. In the press conference, Aaron Boone expressed that the team was capable of doing more than this.

While speaking with the reporters, the 53-year-old once again mentioned that it had been a terrible week for them and that there was no sugarcoating it.

It’s been a terrible week for us; there’s no way of sugarcoating it. We’re capable of way more.

Aaron Boone told the reporters as per SNY

While the Yankees have their own problems to deal with, there is another concern for them. The Tampa Bay Rays have won 7 games in a row, a stark contrast to the form of the two AL East teams.

As a result of this, the Rays now have a 3.5-game lead over the Yankees for first place in the division. This weekend, Boone and his team will take on the Minnesota Twins before taking part in a 4-game showdown against the Rays at Tropicana Field.
