Cody Rhodes Comments on if His “Unfinished Story” With The Rock Needs to Be Settled or Not
Cody Rhodes said that every story in pro wrestling doesn't always get finished while talking about his feud with The Rock ending abruptly.

The Rock told Cody Rhodes the night on Raw after WrestleMania 40 that ‘The QB1’ might’ve finished his story with Roman Reigns, but their story had just begun. Rock made sure to remind everyone that he pinned Rhodes’ shoulders to the mat just 24 hours before the former AEW EVP dethroned Reigns to end his 1316-day reign as the world champion.
Based on that exchange between Rock and Rhodes, the fans presumed that they would go one-on-one at WrestleMania 41. However, the Final Boss’ Hollywood commitments came into the way, and he ended up totally no-showing at the event despite warranting his involvement in Rhodes’ match with John Cena.
Just a month before WrestleMania, Rock orchestrated Cena’s shocking heel turn on Rhodes, and everyone thought ‘The Great One’ would screw Rhodes over at ‘The Show of Shows’ to help Cena become a 17-time world champion. However, the Smashing Machine actor skipped the event and consequently drew the ire of the fans for abandoning such a major storyline.
The Attitude Era icon hasn’t showed up on WWE television since last year’s Elimination Chamber PLE. Amid dashed hopes of Rock revisiting his story with Rhodes from where he left off, the ‘American Nightmare’ got asked by Ariel Helwani if he needs to close that loop with Dwayne Johnson before it’s all said and done.
‘The Prodigal Son’ took a deep breath before admitting that Johnson had become a fixture in his career due to what they went through around WrestleMania in 2024 and beyond. Rhodes said he didn’t want to give it an absolute and say that they necessarily needed to settle their on-screen differences. However, Rhodes did affirm that it was definitely an unfinished story.
Rhodes further went on to say that some stories don’t always get finished in the world of pro wrestling due to several variables involved. The 3-time WWE Champion also talked about there being a couple of versions of finishing his story with The Rock. The first one could be Rhodes emulating Rock’s Hollywood trajectory and making that transition to the movie biz as a way to honor him.
The other one, which Rhodes knew was more appealing to a wrestling fan, would be a world where ‘The Final Boss’ shows back up in WWE and they resume being mean to each other. ‘The Quarterback of WWE’ added that wrestlers like him get a little trepidatious seeing misleading rumors floating online as they make it impossible for the performers to meet those unrealistic fan expectations.
Cody Rhodes staring at his fourth world title in WWE with SummerSlam in sight
Cody Rhodes has come a long way since refusing to sell out to The Rock. He has already had three world title reigns under his belt since returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38. But he’s gunning for more. Tonight on Raw, he will get an opportunity to win his fourth world championship in WWE should he beat Sami Zayn to bring an end to the euphoria of his once-good friend’s first world title reign in WWE.

‘The QB1’ lost the coveted belt in a triple-threat match at Night of Champions, where Zayn rolled him up to stun everyone. Rhodes didn’t take long to earn a rematch by dispatching Jey Uso in a No. 1 contenders match on SmackDown last Friday.

Cody Rhodes, who’s labeling himself as “almost golden” of late on social media, could make it right for himself once again, but putting the championship back on him could be a major risk. The fans are validly arguing that he doesn’t need the title right now. They’re more hellbent on WWE letting Zayn go on an actual run as the world champion instead of treating him as a transitional champion.
Wrestling legend JBL recently opined on the same by stating that WWE should keep the belt on ‘The Last Real Good Guy’ until there’s merit to it. However, given the CM Punk return rumors on this week’s Raw, the possibility of WWE putting the title back on Rhodes to set up his feud with Punk en route to SummerSlam is something that cannot be ruled out.
