Jannik Sinner has sparked injury concerns after he was spotted with a bandage on his shoulder during his quarterfinal match against Jan-Lennard Struff at Wimbledon. The Italian booked a spot in the semifinals of Wimbledon for the third time in his career with a 7-5, 7-6(4), 6-3 win over the German on Tuesday (July 7).

Sinner will be facing Novak Djokovic or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals. Against the Serb, the World No.1 edges 6-5 in the head-to-head matchups, while against the Canadian ace, Sinner holds a 5-2 lead.

Sinner, who suffered a nasty fall during his match against Miomir Kecmanovic, injured his toenail, and blood was seen seeping through his shoes. And during his quarterfinal match, the four-time Grand Slam champion was seen with a bandage on his right shoulder.

Sinner is bidding to win his sixth title of the season. Before arriving in London, Sinner suffered a shock second-round defeat at the hands of Juan Manuel Cerundolo at the French Open and missed a chance to complete the Career Grand Slam.

But before the clay-court Major, he completed the Career Golden Masters after wins in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome, becoming the second man after Djokovic to achieve this feat. Last year at Wimbledon, Sinner, after upsetting the 24-time Grand Slam champion in the semifinals, downed two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz to win his career’s first title at SW19.

Jannik Sinner says the heat during his Wimbledon quarterfinals felt similar to that of the French Open

Jannik Sinner, without any doubt, lost his second-round match at the French Open due to cramps. Under the sweltering sun, he suffered from full-body cramps, and even though he needed just one game in the third set to win his match, he ended up losing the games one after the other before he eventually lost the match in a dramatic fashion. He said the heat during his Wimbledon quarterfinal match felt similar to that of the French Open.

It felt okay. I mean, it was warm but nothing crazy, so…in Australia I feel like it’s tougher because also on the surface you’re playing. On hard court, it comes also from underneath. It was quite dry today, which is a big difference from when it’s humid and warm; it’s different again. I felt quite comfortable today. It was warm, yes. It was similar, I feel like to Paris maybe. But yeah, it was okay.

Jannik Sinner said at the press conference

During his on-court interview, Sinner was told that the temperature was getting toward the 30 degrees Celsius mark. And to this, he joked: “Well, thanks for reminding me!“

Sinner also praised Djokovic for his work ethic and everything he does to play at the highest level at this stage of his career.

What continues to impress me is his dedication, the way he trains, how much he invests in his body, and the motivation he still has today. Right now, I’m only thinking about the semifinal: I’ll need to serve as best I can, play my best tennis, and hope a great match comes out of it.

Jannik Sinner added

Sinner has faced the 39-year-old once this year. At the Australian Open, the seven-time Wimbledon champion clinched a five-set win in the semifinals but couldn’t beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final. Djokovic snapped his five-match losing streak against the South Tyrol native in that semifinal.

Djokovic, who last won at SW19 in 2022 by beating Nick Kyrgios, also played the final in the event in the following two seasons, losing both times to the seven-time Grand Slam champion.

If Sinner reaches the final, he will face Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, Flavio Cobolli, or Arthur Fery. Fritz will clash with Zverev, while Cobolli will play the last British man in the draw. It was Zverev who won this year’s French Open by defeating Cobolli.
