Wimbledon 2026 quarterfinals brought a new controversy to the table. After the second set between Novak Djokovic and Felix Auger-Aliassime, the tournament supervisors announced that the remainder of the match would be played under the roof.
Both players took strict objection to it. Another top player who added fuel to the fire was Carlos Alcaraz, who has pulled out of this year’s Championships due to a wrist injury. The Spaniard was letting his thoughts be known on Instagram Live.
Who do you think benefits from the closed roof?
The Wimbledon roof controversy isn’t something new. Last year, during the 4th-round match between Grigor Dimitrov and Jannik Sinner, this situation arose after Dimitrov held a 2-set lead. However, the Bulgarian wasn’t happy with this call.

This year, Dimitrov has had this situation twice at Wimbledon. Now, the situation has moved towards Djokovic in the quarterfinals.
Jannik Sinner joins Carlos Alcaraz in elite Grand Slam club
At 24 years old, Jannik Sinner has carved his place among tennis legends by reaching his tenth Grand Slam semifinal. His victory over Jan-Lennard Struff at Wimbledon confirmed not only his dominance on grass but also his rapid ascent into the sport’s elite. Few players have managed such consistency so early in their careers.

By overcoming Struff in the quarterfinals, Sinner secured his spot in the last four of the London major while joining a rare group of players who achieved double-digit Grand Slam semifinals before turning 25. This achievement places him alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner’s inclusion in this select circle highlights his ability to deliver on the biggest stages. Since his breakthrough, he has shown remarkable adaptability across all surfaces, proving that his game is not limited to one style or condition. His blend of power, precision, and composure has made him one of the most reliable performers on tour.
This milestone reinforces the Italian’s reputation as a consistent force in the sport. Each deep run at a major strengthens his standing as a player capable of shaping the future era of tennis. With his youth, discipline, and growing list of achievements, Sinner’s trajectory suggests he is destined to leave a lasting mark at the highest level.
Jannik Sinner reaches Wimbledon semifinals
Jannik Sinner kept his Wimbledon title defense alive with a straight-sets win over Jan-Lennard Struff, 7-5, 7-6, 6-3. The world No. 1 absorbed Struff’s aggressive play, finding his rhythm late in the first set and holding firm in a tense second-set tiebreak before closing out the match with authority in the third. His serving power, highlighted by 16 aces, proved decisive.

Struff’s run was historic, as he became the oldest man in the Open Era to reach his first Grand Slam quarter-final at 36. His Wimbledon journey included a memorable upset over Daniil Medvedev, but against Sinner, he couldn’t sustain his level long enough to push the match deeper. Even in defeat, his ranking received a significant boost, moving him into the top 40.
For Sinner, this victory marks his third Wimbledon semi-final and his tenth Grand Slam semi-final overall. His record at the All England Club now stands at 25-4, placing him among elite company with legends like Borg, Becker, and Nadal. He has also strung together 14 consecutive sets won since the opening round, underscoring his dominance on grass this year.
The Italian now faces Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. With his career-best serving numbers- 97 aces so far in the tournament- Sinner enters the final stretch as the favorite, though the challenge ahead promises high drama and could define his path to back-to-back Wimbledon titles.
